Can anyone remember which shop in town supplied the club with gramaphone records that were played at the matches in the early sixties?
Possibly Neals. I'm almost sure they had a shop on Sheffield Road a bit further up from Harry Hough's menswear shop (before the Alhambra centre was built).
Neals were on Sheffield Road maybe before they went to Arcade. If I knew how to attach a photo I could prove it.
You were both right. Originally they had a shop in a little street just off Sheffield Road but relocated to the Arcade when the redevelopment at the Sheffield/Doncaster Road end of town started.
Thanks for that. The question still remains to be answered "who did supply BFC"? If I think on I will ask Spinksy at the match on Sunday - he might know.
So do I, Think they only played abart 3, this wor one tho.
Dunno about the 60s, but in the mid 80s Lenny Prince from Casa Disco used to drop a pile of singles off in the office (which in those days was on the way round to the away end), where I worked on matchdays. I used to rearrange them into "preferable order" before Keith Borrett came in to pick them up.
Ok here is the DEFINITIVE ANSWER, at least as far as Season 65/66 goes anyway. I've got programmes going back to 61/62 and I just had a trawl through some of them looking for information. It wasn't until I got to the programme for Barnsley V Doncaster Rovers, Football League Cup First Round 7th September, 1965 that I found a mention of music suppliers. I quote from the "Acknowledgements" section: "Gramaphone records played tonight kindly loaned by Messrs. Top Rank Ltd., Market Street, Barnsley" So there you have it. Casa Disco was, as others have suggested, much later (the 70s)
