Why is it silly that it's been called off so early?

I appreciate:

Undersoil heating so pitch is playable
Terracing and carpark clear of ice/snow (apparently)
According to some all roads around Oakwell are clear
Snow appears to have stopped (for now)

All the above may be ok for local fans - providing their estates/roads have been gritted

BUT

conditions remain bad on major and minor roads further south

http://www.traffic-england.co.uk/ (click on disruptions and check M! both directions)

and the temperatures aren't expected to get much above freezing tomorrow (but won't feel as if they have)
so travel from down south here and back could be a major problem.

If the match fixture was at Crystal Palace's ground, then how many would be prepared to make the journey given the conditions?

Thing is thats not the reason given, there saying that the roads and side walks around oakwell aren't fit so not safe which i think is just wrong.
The match has been called off due to the surrounding areas of Oakwell though not because of conditions in the south. Also surely it is upto individuals to look at the weather conditions and decide whether they want to travel or not.
What the other two said You can't go calling games off willy nilly because there's a bit of ice somewhere on the journey for the away fans. It's ludicrous.
The only thing i can liken it to is shutting down alton towers because some of the visitors are from london and the roads are bad in reading or something.
people are moaning because they know the real reason they have called it off is the fact they ant trained out doors all week and there hoping to use the excuse of fixture back log towards the back end of season as the reason for us going down if we do
We've still got ice and a bit of snow at the back of our house where mum and dad park and it's very slippy in places. Surely if there are patches of ice around, even in places, be it the roads or terracing, and considering the temperature is going to be below freezing again tonight then it makes sense to think of the safety of all.

Also do we know that our players can get/have been able to get from where they live to the ground?

Same sort of principle... If that was the reason. I'm not in Barnsley but having spoken to some people who do live there and have been down towards Oakwell, it seems very odd if it's for roads in the area.
I'm ok thanks. Still keep having dizzy spells and feeling very tired and achy all the time but on the mend. Hopefully I'll feel much better once I've had another iron infusion, I can't keep missing school by sleeping all the time.
I agree not many but then again how many would have travelled tomorrow? I appreciate that calling the match off so early is maybe a harsh decision but surely if there are problems or potential problems with streets/roads/terracing not being clear then it's the only decision that could have been made. Would it have been fair to leave it until 11am or so tomorrow? I doubt it.
RE: I agree not many Maybe this evening. Or assessed it at 2pm today after another 2-3 hours of sun and so it'd be same of day as the match.
RE: I agree not many Trouble is Laura, you're talking to someone who's seen the Reds play at Oakwell with the lines painted blue on a pitch of compressed snow - against a top-division team containing superstars of their day.
Society today is far too soft and doesn't take any account of the fact that human beings are far more resilient than the powers that be will allow them to be.
I take your good self as a case in point!

Thanks for that. I agree that people should take responsibility for their own actions but like you say people sue for anything these days so companies have to do all they can to avoid any potential claims. I still think the same decison would have been made sometime this afternoon looking at the predicted weather conditions /temperature.
