How many of you have actually seen us play since the end of last season? .... I haven't, and will therefore reserve judgement until I've seen two or three league games. Just wondered how many folks are writing us off based upon listening to / reading reports on a few "experimental" pre season games; a game against the divisional favourites (at a ground we haven't won at since the year dot; and a league cup tie. The negativity is bound to rub off & make Oakwell a nervous place - before we've even kicked a ball in anger there this season.
What experimental games? We didn't play any experimental games, davey played the same 11 he always does.
RE: What experimental games? Well I've never seen Jamal Adam in the first team yet ..... Johnson played a few of those games.... he tried some "trialists" ... I'd call those inclusions "experimental".
Good Idea! Really looking forward to Sat, pre-match (pint) , during match (pint), half time (pint) and post match (pint) Oh, and I think we will win, too. I always do.
I'd call bobby hassell in midfield every week very predictable Swapping the front two isn't experimental for me. Now if he had tried a different left back in a few games or given a few more people a crack at playing the holding position then i'd agree with you, but he didn't. He continued playing the same players in the same alien positions.
Think you missed my point I'm saying that the results of pre season games, where experiments are being made, are fairly unimportant (other than to boost confidence). Just think alot of people here are jumping on the boo boy bandwaggon before even seeing a competitive game this season. So far today I've read all the usual about Davey; Hassell & ODJ, but now we're laying into Rigters (overweight, hasn't done anything - 2 appearances ffs); wrong formation this, tactics that. Season goes til NEXT May & we haven't even played at home yet. Just unbelieveable negativity in my view.
RE: Good Idea! Losing battle & all that ..... I'll just stick to talking about curry I reckon. ANyway, I'll have a Cov fan in tow on Sat, so if we don't win we'll all be flippin miserable! :'( (pint)
I know i'm negative but even I wouldn't get on Rigters back having never seen him. I can however say that Odejayi isn't good enough, this is after seeing him for a year. I can say that Hassell isn't good enough in midfield, again after a year. Kozluk isn't good enough at left back and Foster is wasted at right back. These are all said after watching us for a year. I think it is also fair to say that the formation (ie the positionining of certain players) is wrong without having to see them this season because I know that the players are not suited to those positions, be it a friendly or league game it is/was still clear to see. As for Moore, well again, competitive or friendly, his lack of pace was obvious for all to see and while he may not be a bad player, it was easily spotted that him and souza were too similar to work as a partnership. ie they have the same weaknesses which means if you play a team that can beat one then they can beat both players. The friendlies might have been 'experimental' in a few peoples eyes but in mine they showed nothing but an inability by simon davey to recognise a problem, this was shown by the points raised earlier with regards players who were out of position last season still being out of position in the friendlies and then in the league.
You've got a terrible habit Of bringing away fans - that's Sheff U, Sheff W and now Coventry. Stop it! And anyway who is this who wants us to lose? Can't think who you mean. Is he/she a season ticket holder?
So many friends..................... .............Mind you, to quote someone we both know ..... My next husband ........................... Will be a Reds Fan .......... (Not a pseudo ST holder though)
Sounds like I'm due a PM. No idea who you are talking about. Good night - it's an hour later over here.
Also fair to point out (if you're basing it on what we know from last year) Totally different team at home as opposed to away. JCR missing Da Silva missing Muller missing 3 hugely influential players for us. Have faith. I have never been one to get excited by the League Cup, but I don't like losing any game. Just want fans to give the lads a chance at home before it's all doom & gloom.
I agree that JCR is a big blow but it is greatly disappointing that we appear to have no capable cover for him. As for Muller, well Steele is no worse than him in my opinion, both are excellent keepers. De Silva? Been out for months yet still a right back is 'filling' in for him. It was a left back that davey had filling in the same position almost two years ago now and everybody thought it had cost him his job. He appears to have learnt very little.
