In the 1960s the old Co-op shop, two storey with furniture and toyshop upstairs, and others were on the site of where the new Boots was built.
Part of the line of shops was an old chemists, maybe the original Boots, I can't remember.
Anyway, in this chemists I can remember behind the counter several old vividly coloured bottles or jars, tall and narrow with broad bases. Strong red, blue colours.
I believe they may be called apothecaries jars.
Anyone remember these and what they were there for?

Just out of interest in my routine of visiting car boots and doing occasionally auctions I came across a box of old chemist bottles issued by various chemists, Paid a quid for em and took them home. Upon closer inspection some were labelled from Chemists who were in Barnsley in the early 1900's through to the 1940's. So I decided they may be of more interest to the Experience Barnsley museum, They thought they would be good for their retail display so I donated them and they went on show. If you come across owt from old days in tarn it's well worth calling in and asking..
