Haven't been to oakwell since just before covid, been reading on here about diversions near the ground. Im going to the game against boro travelling from north yorks, i come of motorway at junction 37 and park at the Mount. Just wondered if i can take my normal route or will i have to park elsewhere. If i have to park elsewhere where is the best place please. Tia.
There's the new roundabout at Penny Pie Park (just off J37), can't go straight on anymore. Just follow the signs for Town Centre round the roundabout then follow the normal route through town end to Oakwell. Should be ok that mate
As well as the new roundabout mentioned above there are also road works on Dodworth Road at the moment. I live on Dodworth Road so have no choice. If I didn't I wouldn't go anywhere near it, it's impenetrable.
I travel from Harrogate to every home match and also park near the mount. I always use M1 J37. The new roundabout adds about 30 seconds to a minute on to my journey. I agree it's a waste of money but not sure what all the fuss is about regarding delays.
The old Penny Pie Park gyratory, they'll be talking about it for generations to come. I had the honour of using it for the first time last week. Maybe the delay is exaggerated, but i was left wondering: why? It was a perfectly fine crossroads. Now it resembles a building site and the layout doesn't make sense to me. Is it to do with the houses they are building? If so, i'm no town planner but i imagine they could have just kept the crossroads as is and built on the field. Bit daft really.
I'm not sure you can say it was a perfectly fine crossroads, especially if you used it during rush hour. The aim I think is to reduce the bottleneck further up towards the motorway. I'm sure it will look better once it is finished too, they are hardly going to leave it like that.
Oh it will look a lot better of course, just looks a mess right now. As for decreasing the bottle neck, they haven't shaved much off surely? Maybe one fingers worth on a bottle of Becks, if that?
I think it will take quite a bit of traffic away from the motorway end once people start getting into the right lanes. The aim is to push it a bit further down that's all. I'm not sure any solution will be perfect.
