Questions………..Two questions about ambitions of the club
1)
We can probably trace the slide down the leagues from the time when Darren Barnard missed the penalty at Wembley - we missed out on promotion that season and because of this we sold our better players such as Hignett and Eaden then later Shipperley.
At the time we had a guy in charge whose heart was in the right place but he didn’t have the money to keep the team together. Question is -
If we were near the top of the Championship League right now, is the board of directors in a position to prevent this slide happening again?
And if not…….
Would the directors consider bringing other people onto the Board to enable funds to be made available to maintain the success of the club?

2)
Dave Bassetts book…….Settling The Score………Page 318…………Quote
“All of which re-emphasised that Barnsley really is a small club, because it was players of Johns (Curtis) quality that we should have been holding on to”
So Dave Bassett thinks Barnsley is a small club.
Considering the support for Leeds United (and I remember when Leeds were taking 12 coaches to home games from Wombwell) and considering all the support for Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United in the Barnsley district.
We are squeezed between two successful football cities and although we are a medium sized town of about 220 thousand – we are a big town in terms of the number of football supporters that live here, even though we have been starved of success compared to our near neighbours. Question is -
If we had a sustained period of success (near the top of the Championship or in the Premiership) for about 5 years (and this is something we have never had at Oakwell) what in your opinion would the attendance be at Oakwell?
In other words
How big is Barnsley Football Club?
Blackburn – Bolton – Wigan – Charlton - Fulham - West Brom - Portsmouth

3)
Do you read the BBS website message board?

Question 1.........answer

Patrick Cryne.....long answer but this is the gist of it
if he can find someone else to take over the club he will let the club go to them
But there is nothing in there for a business man
So it would have to be a fan who was willing to put money into the club
The assests are tied up
John Dennis could have sold the lot for building and made millions but he didn't

I think he knows he is getting old and if he dies - what then for Barnsley FC
He has a 12 year old son that may not be interested in putting money into the club
So we need other investors (I have been banging on about this for some time) but Barnsley is not awash with people that are on the Times rich list

Cheers. But surely now the club effectively has no assets then it is a worse proposition than before ? I dunno like, just how I see it.

Yes Dirk.........and that was said by someone in the audience

But it prevents someone taking the place over and building houses on it

Speaking as a captain of industry

(witcockart) that's just how I see it. Unless you are a genuine BFC fan, there's noreason to get involved ( which may be a good thing actually if it prevents the Sean Lewis' of this world sniffing about)

Absolutely. And a big relief all round that now cannot happen apparently.

I'm just frustrated that Dennis et al didn't realise the assets to help fund the club when the club actually owned the land. And I would imagine the erstwhile shareholders are more so.

One thing i remember was that, if any money was made from developing the outer fringes of the 34 acres it would be re-invested back into the club.

Good point, although I wont complain if they decide to tarmac a path through the top bit. Its like an army assault course even in the middle of summer.

RE: Question 1.........answer

How on earth could John Dennis have sold anything belonging to the club, he always said he was custodian of the club as chairman and that he owned nothing.
