I thought today and the opposition we faced would see us back to 3-5-2, but what do I know? . I thought we dealt well though with the constant aerial bombardment, and Cranie and Bob were showing up well, ably assisted by Wiseman who was quality 1st half. . Kennedy was the weak link for me, and I think we were bullied in central midfield too. I presume Dawson isn't 'ready' because he'd have come on for me. Perkins was out-muscled time and again, and Etuhu faded badly 2nd half. . O'Brien was weak again, IMO. And Reuben came on and along with Mellis he looked an actual threat - graft, good feet and not afraid to shoot. For me, Reuben deserves to start a game. . Harewood and Daggers did well for me, but I can understand why he brought Scotland on when he did. Unfortunately, he was badly off the pace today. . It was a typical away day at S6 - we dominate, look the better footballing side, but their direct tactics create more chances and inevitably they take them. I've seen it all before. But that's why I expected a 3-5-2. A formation Wednesday haven't handled this season. But we played 'their' game, played into their hands. . The few times we got it down and actually went for it, we nearly scored. And that's how Mellis scored his beauty. If today has proved owt about our squad, it's that Mellis is crucial. . Just a quick point about the toilets at half time - it had me thinking of 1989. Seriously. Dunno why, but **** me we were packed like sardines in there and the concourse. I could hardly breathe, and that was without the fog of smoke. . Reight. Still ont train, my neck hurts, but I'm not disheartened. Long way to go yet, and owt could happen. We'll end up beating Leicester Monday and Bristol will beat Wednesday. It's the way it goes this year. . Have good weekends people.
Agree with that. The back two of Hassell and Crainie dealt with the areal threat by if not winning the first ball making sure they got the second.I thought it ironic the first time Wednesday got the ball on the deck they scored. The dry pitch suited Wed.game more than ours. All in all disappointed with the result but not downhearted with our overall game.Onwards and upwards.
I'm very surprised Foster didn't play today. If he is fit then I'd probably have gone with: Steele Cranie Foster Hassell Wiseman Etuhu Perkins Kennedy Mellis Dagnall Harewood I think we'd have coped with their aerial threat and it would have put Mellis at the heart of everything. The more we get him on the ball the better.
Said same many times on here. The most unsafe ground I can think of in the football league and if another disaster ever happened (God forbid) there it would be a shock to many but not me. The concourse area in the upper tier is far too small and cramped for how many fans are up there. Stewards/Police don't go into the toilet area to check for smokers either and with how old the stand is it wouldn't take much to go up in flames. Then what happens? You have over 3,000 people trying to rush down a narrow flight of stairs in a state of panic. I'm surprised it's got a fire certificate that end, but then Wednesday aren't likely to knock the stand down and rebuild it properly at the cost of millions of pounds.
Today was not about football and systems, it was about us playing the Wendy's. for years very time we play them and Sheffield utd no matter how we play the old hoodoo kicks in. We outplayed them and their fans cannot be happy, only with the win. They are poor but like the other bottom teams keep getting wins. We still need three wins so let's get Leicester down Monday
Today reminded me of our play under Keith Hill (not saying that's a bad thing) but we were well on top in the first half, didn't make the most of it, but once we conceded we capitulated. Scotland came on for Dagnall and was very poor to be honest - I suppose he was due a poor performance but we lost a lot when Daggers went off. Spoke to a few Wednesday lads after the game, decent lads don't get me wrong but they had it in their heads that they had bossed the game from start to finish? That annoyed me because for almost all of the first half and large parts of the second half they weren't in it at all, but at the end of the day they took their chances so fair play to them but I'd still say that, despite the fact that they've beaten us twice, they are the worst side I've seen us come up against and I can see why their fans are frustrated with some of their results if that's how they play.
We were saying, whilst being crushed, "can you imagine if there was a fire, or emergency?" You'd never get out. They need to look at it. I'm being serious. Saw two little un's crying as they were forced against the concrete wall.
That's sad. The only way around it though would be for them to spend many millions in getting the stand knocked down and building it from scratch (rebuilt with modern materials and without restricted viewing too) so it's not gonna happen. If something did flame up you couldn't blame people for thinking of their own lives/safety but that would end up with people pushed out of the way and trampled over. That wasn't too good either. Neither was New York Stadium. You don't really see a big concourse in away ends.
Helan. Lita. Aside that we got exactly what we deserved today, dave jones must have pissed himself when we made madine look a world beater again
Weren't impressed by Lita, but I reckon he'd suit us better to be honest. Helan though, very impressive, as was Buxton again.
