Listening to Patrick Cryne this evening made my blood run cold. It is clear that he didn't want Ritchie to be manager in the first place. Shepherd has been protecting Ritchie but Cryne obviously put the thumbscrews on him to get rid. Don't get me wrong, if Cryne is willing to put the money in then I suppose he ought to have the man in that he wants (he was described as the owner of Barnsley Football Club on Radio Sheff after all). Shepherd and Ritchie were both in impossible positions. Reckon Andy comes out of it with more dignity than Gordon though. If I was the new manager I'd want to be sure I was talking to Cryne when all the important matters were being discussed. How can anyone believe GS in the future?
real reason Andy Ritchie's departure was inevitable because of his continued decision not to play Nardiello (quite rightly). I think Nardy is the favourite player of PC's son.
Didn't want to get into a "should Mr Shepherd go" thread but if you're right his position is untenable.
dont talk ****** (doh) Its not often we hear from PC but when we do its always important. I belive the right decision has been made even though im sad to see him go/ I just want to shake him and ask him WHY he wouldnt get in the required personnel! He could have gone on to be an all time great - he has shown too much loyalty to the players. They had MORE than a good chance. Andy has failed to realise and take action when necessary. We could be top 10 now with the right CH and CF on early season form.
I understand what you are saying. There are so many ulterior motives and hidden agendas in this situation I am afraid that as usual we will never get to know the full story.
RE: dont talk ****** Well, ignoring my "real reason" how can you say it's ******. Have you listened to cryne's interview. If not, then do so and then tell me what you think. Another point that seems to be emerging is that the only players that money was being made available for were those that were put forward by the board. Any players that Ritchie wanted became "not available" or went elsewhere for more money. IF everything is totally on the level and there is a fair amount of money for players then I'll be delighted (and amazed).
er sorry - as you seemed to be making serious points I didn't think you could have been commenting on that idea! Maybe you took it seriously! We are in deeper sh+t than I thought.
RE: there is more to this than meets the eye im sure Sure. At least if I've read the situation correctly then Cryne must have a manager in mind. Did sound like we'll be sticking with Simon Davey though. Cryne said he wanted a coach (rather than a manager).
RE: Welcome back Just got fed up with this board and threats, abuse and double standards that were flying about. Final straw was site admin's attitude to my complaints. I know I'm likely to get into hot water again but maybe they are taking complaints a bit more seriously now. Real question is - why am I back? I think it was the dream I had about Ritchie's sacking and Dodgy Dave Hodgson's appointment.

I too think that this was much more Mr Cryne's doing than Mr Shepherd's, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see changes in the boardroom shortly. Shades of Mr Ridsdale's departure??

Having said that, I am 100% supportive of Mr Cryne and believe that he acts with the club's best interests at heart.

I liked AR as a person, probably one of the best we have had for a long time BUT - He was too stubborn for his own good and was too much of a players friend. Mis-placed loyalty will get you nowhere. Tommy Wright was a case in point.
RE: im sorry - but you are so wrong there mate Can't see what other scenario fits what Cryne said last night, coupled with the public actions of Shepherd. PC talked about "conventional wisdom" was opposed to Ritchie's appointment and that GS had stuck out for him. There were reports about a bust up between Cryne and Shepherd over money for players being offered and not taken up a while ago. Shepherd was only talking about offering Ritchie a contract a couple of weeks ago. Either GS is duplicitous (which I don't believe) or some serious pressure has been placed on him from somewhere and he's responded. Linking to another thread - I know where Windy is coming from in his support for Cryne and so understand that completely. I'm not knocking Cryne, he's obviously a clever bloke who pulls the strings and manages to keep out of the firing line (quite rightly he gets someone else to take the flack). He is entitled to do this and if I'd put as much into the club as he has I'd want to be in ultimate control. On another point: I'd always assumed that PC had protected quite a chunk of his investment by it being put in for the chief assets of the club (i.e. ground, land etc. - along with BMBC). Is he the "owner" of the club as stated twice on the radio last night? If so, then he's still got a fair amount of debt to cover as well and I can see even more reason for him to be "hands on". I know this is all conjecture - but I am interested in what goes on at the club. The "Worsbrough millionaire" might be the real one pulling the strings for all I know.
