Good luck YT. I gave up four years ago using chewing gum and will power. It wasn't easy and I still get cravings but I am really glad I did give up. The only downside was that I put on weight and I'm not sure if its related or something that would have happened anyway once I was in my 40's. I went from 13 stone to just under 15 stone.

Eat more and become a fat ******* like myself and finish up with other health problems instead.

I weigh 11 stone now, so I don't mind putting on a couple extra. R lass mind you, may disagree.

It's going to be a struggle, but I'm sick of paying out my arse for summat I don't actually enjoy, summat that could kill me.

    Thanks for the replies lads.

I occasionally have a smoke when I have a few drinks but stopped a 20 to 30 a day habit 4/5 years ago after smoking for abart 36 years. Started to decrease daily amount first till it got down to one after meals and then after going without one day and never went back, at that time.

You need to really want to do it and also to keep your hands and mind active to stop you thinking about smoking.

    Re: Well said WorsbroughRed

I quit in 2004, one month before my 1st son was born. Did it cold turkey and I was a nightmare for the 1st few weeks.

I bought one of those money tins that are sealed and continued to put the cash I would normally have spent on cigs into it every other day. 12 months later I opened it and was a massive shock to see if front of me what I had been wasting.

    Best of luck

I smoked for 20 years, heavily, got fed up with it and decided to quit. After 2 or 3 false starts I gave up using this

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-Easy-Stop-Smoking/dp/0140277633

12 years later I've never gone back to the tabs. I've told several people about this book and you wouldn't believe the number who have asked me to lend it them, I always refuse, it's about the same price as 3 packets of fags - if you're serious about stopping smoking you'll make the investment.

Good luck to both you and your partner.

I stopped several years ago due to health problems. I got pneumonia and a lung abcess due to a bad bout of the flu. This has left me with a lot of respitory problems so this gave me the fright I needed to stop smoking. The abcess permanently scared my lung so smoking would not be a wise thing to do.

When I first stopped smoking a did gain a stone but I was quite happy with this as i've always been skinny. I stopped replacing the cigarettes with food after a couple of months so I didn't gain anymore weight.

When I first stopped I found the time I most wanted a cigarette was just after a meal, that was the hardest part of it for me.

Even if you fail the first time you try to stop keep trying as you will eventually do it. Good luck!!

if you don't want t put on weight and make things better in the long run

Don't satisfy the craving with food. Go for a walk round the block or go knock the crap out of a punch bag for 5 mins instead. I've never had to stop but just a suggestion from people I've talked to in the past. All about changing your habits and mindset.

    Show that cig whos boss.

    Good luck.
