Which ex-Reds player has played the most games in the Premiership? That is, just the Premiership, so not the old Division One. And who's second (with over a hundred games less than number 1)? Edit: and please don't cheat. It's not the World Cup you know!
Good question. For a loanee, I'd guess at Rory Delap. For a proper contracted player, I'd have a go with David Hirst. Probably way off with both.
Delap with 369 appearances is correct. 2nd is a loanee too. Most of Hirst's appearances were pre-Premier League. Not sure who the contracted player would be, as I was doing a quiz which listed all players with over 240 Premier League appearances and there were only two ex-Reds on there, the 2nd having played 240 games.
I can't spell his name scored and did a airplane Norwegian Played for Swindon Sheffield united Middlesbrough
The reason I went with Hirst was that he was playing regularly for Wednesday for the first five seasons of the Premiership, before making a few more appearances with Southampton.
David Hirst played a lot. Gerry Taggart had a fair few seasons. As did Ashley Ward. Redfearn had 3 seasons I think. De Zeeuw and Baker a couple. David Speedie was still playing in the Premier League era. Carl Tiler played there quite a but, as did Hignett. Shipperley had a few goes. But they were all players who played for us in their prime or went on to play in the Prem. I've got a feeling it might be one of the players who played for us as their career was coming to an end. Somebody like Richardson or Thomas or Chettle.
I was actually surprised to read, on a different question, that Clive Baker made 48 Premiership appearances for Ipswich.
