junior thereev's team played at Maltby the other week...... and one or two of their 9 year old players would not shake hands with the black lad in our team.

When I told junior thereev what had happened and that they wouldn't shake hands because he was black, junior thereev said to me innocently 'why Dad, what difference does it make that he is black?'

These young lads were not born racist.......their parents / guardians however are a fooking disgrace.

    Sad sad world

This does not help in anyway :(

That's truly tragic reading. Hope the young lad mentioned wasn't too upset about it, and realises that they weren't worthy of his handshake/respect anyway.

I hope it was reported. Shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Was it reported or anything done. The people who control and organise these games can all see what's happening but too easy to turn a blind eye. I saw it several times when my lad played ice hockey where the hand shakes would turn into a scrap. Difficult in that sport with cages and gear muffling the comments and actions but someone must have seen in a kids footy game.

Better edit that before the grammar police get you :)

But in all seriousness, more needs to be done in schools to combat backwards views like these, rather than a sense of sweeping it under the carpet and pretending we've achieved an acceptant society.

the third person thing winds folk up.....so it works perfectly.

N.B. When formal writing, the word I should 'never be used'. The third person style is also used a lot as well, which also uses the Harvard Referencing System, which having had to use it, is indeed a crock of historical shlte!

    thereev sincerely hopes this helps

Tons are done in schools about this thank you very much. There is not a chance that if a child did that in most school settings (I can't account for the occasional strange school) it would just be 'swept under the carpet'. For one thing, the Head has to by law keep a log of all racist incidents. I'm obviously not pretending that keeping a log prevents it from happening but a lot of time in schools is spent fostering an accepting society - despite everything else we have to do. I'm sick of hearing that every problem in society is caused by schools not targeting it. More needs to be done at home.

Spot on JD, issues like this, amongst other things, are the responsibility of parents first and foremost to address. I hate hearing parents blame teachers and schools for the behaviour of their offspring.

Nothing to do with schools it's bad parenting - they don't pick up racist behaviour in a classroom. People need to realise it's their job to bring up their children not schools

I wasn't blaming the school just giving you an example .

I don't blame the parents either

You can teach your son about racism but it only takes some other lads at school who may not have been educated from their parents and youngsters will follow them .

It's like saying its parents fault that kids get into drugs
