Everybody wants free to air commentary.
We have the people with the skills from 1575.
We have a football club that can give rights to any radio station to broadcast commentary.
We have dearne fm broadcasting to the whole town on fm.
Am I missing something here. Why is this not being done? Are one/all of the parties not willing to do this? Or is there a specific other reason this cannot happen?

Who? Dearne fm? I am not saying that its not it. But to me, its a no-brainer for them. How many more listeners would they get on a saturday afternoon than they currently do? An hour of build up and commentary, with a bit of reaction after. 3 or 4 hours out of their schedule. Done by 1575 staff.
I seem to remember that when there was the bidding process for running a station in barnsley. One of the things that the bidding stations pushed, was their local sports courage. Which was obviously ignored as soon as they got the license.

Compass FM Compass FM - 'sister station' to Dearne, owned by same Lincs FM group.
http://www.compassfm.co.uk/news.php?id=1240
The Mighty Mariners are away to Gillingham. We'll have FULL LIVE match commentary on 96.4FM or via "Mariners World" at www.gtfc.co.uk with David and Scott.

From what I understand Pele at dearne FM would LOVE the station to do commentary but the dearne FM ownership/management don't want commenatary as they are a music based station not sports based.
I believe that penistone FM has a restricted licence which is basically the same as what 1575 had. Allowed to broadcast for 28 days per year only. The only difference is that as 1575 was on AM then the 28 days could be whenever they wanted, one here, one there. On FM they have to run consecutively.
Agreed all of their pre launch test signals were focused around giving full covereage of barnsley fc matches. I felt conned when I found out that they wouldnt have any commentary
if that's their attitude, why are we with them stinks of bfc not making up with radio shitfield, at least then we would get a little coverage
RE: From what I understand Pele at dearne FM would LOVE the station to do commentary I've already apologised for my statement post, but I won't be stopped from posting on here re: radio and broadcasting. Free speech 'n all that. Dearne FM have made a recent decision not to submit a proposal to BFC to do full match commentary, mainly due to the reasons Supertyke has stated above, I believe.
RE: if that's their attitude, why are we with them They are planning more coverage and covering us well at the moment.
they could always talk to radio sheffield again save them PAYING for 1575 lads to do commentary for barnsley world when the bbc were providing it for free wouldnt it
RE: they could always talk to radio sheffield again That's who I'm talking aboutl There is dialogue according to someone at the meeting the other night. Davey's recent interviews on there would seem to indicate this is true.
Sorry, I thought you said they were talking to dearne fm again about full match coverage. I think that now it has come to light that not only were we missing out on the BBC's payment for having commentary on their station but also actually paying for the barnsley world commentary where before we was not then the financial penalty for falling out with radio sheffield becomes even more obvious.
RE: From what I understand Pele at dearne FM would LOVE the station to do commentary Thank heaven need quality commentary
Dearne FM Bulletins, increasingly include other SY teams particularly the Blunts. Incidentally, I wouldn't want to listen to a full match commentary by Pele. Listening to his reports a painful enough. (doh)
