To answer your question i'd say we have signed more rubbish players from outside the championship than good players from outside the championship during the time Simon Davey has been in charge.

We've got Jacob Butterfield who I believe deserves more of a chance. Why not save the money?

Funnily enough I deleted from my original post the part saying that I'm not implying that Barnett isn't any good.

But you're missing the point completely. Butterfield is a young (unproven) midfielder, Barnett is a young (unproven) midfielder, we already have Butterfield but would have to pay for Barnett. Where's the sense in that? In fact, at least Butterfield has a small amount of Championship experience.
I wouldn't be angry if we bought him but I just can't see the point in it. We might as well sell Butterfield if that's the case.
