been told today that they are taking radio's off shop floor due to licensing laws, they are not prepared to pay for license. anybody clued up in this area ?
The PRS have had a blitz on this Shops factories, anywhere that music would be heard by a 'crowd'.
Not sure what a licence costs as I chucked their threatening letter in the bin.

you have to get a quote which is based on how long it's played for, staff listening etc etc and it varies depending on the type of place you have - business premises probably will be stung for it. One we had was about 450 but it was specific usage, know someone quoted at a grand for radio in a factory
RE: The PRS have had a blitz on this They got us about 6 month ago. They sent us a threatening letter, i think they wanted about £250. The letter went straight through the shredder, and we havent heard anything else since. yeah.....**** you Da Man
Depends if your Employer wants to pay up or risk a fine An employer can risk not getting caught but the PRS have inspectors out and any music is illegal in public places (pubs, Workshops, factories, Schools etc) without a licence. Offer to club up to help, if you have good few employees it might be reasonable, but there is a credit crunch on and any money your company saves is a bonus today.
Plus it is the easiest way to encourage slacking Seen it all everybody stops work to hear this song or that song, or this answer to a question or that. Nearly as bad as private internet surfing during hours
I remember a few years ago that a garage was fined for playing a car radio whilst it was being repaired.
it's only background music in a big factory, good for morale instead of listening to everyone moaning
RE: PRS is b*llox Lets say u listen to the radio at work. The station pays (or maybe not thinking on) for the cd, then they have to pay to broadcast said cd, then a factory/business listening has to pay to have their radio on.... 3 payments for one song! My dad threatened to do them for harrassment cos they kept writing/calling (we're a 4 man firm). They shut up then.
I'd love to see all workplaces refuse to pay and have no music on and the likes of youtube etc pull all their music. How long would the industry last without being able to advertise their songs anywhere?
if everyone said we're not paying it - advertisers would lose out (without their audience) and then they'd be like - oh please come back we need you...here have a free radio, grovel grovel grovel. BLEED1NG SPONGES!
Re: PRS Their attitude to live venues makes me laugh. Trying to charge hundreds of ££ for a PRS licence to places that only host original bands. (ask DJ Fatty Boy) They dont even check the venues out, they just wade in throwing bills around. Like i said before, its the new TV licence - guilty until u can prove you're innocent.
