I think most moderate muslims would postpone ramadan till after they were out ...

Do we have any muslim BBS members?

I read an article in the Telegraph which said that there are exemptions for certain people during Ramadan.

That gives them a big advantage in the water breaks if they carry on playing whilst the Germans are on the side having a drinks stop

I don't think it includes sportsmen though.

El Haimour didn't half get some grief away at Southampton due to his religious beliefs from one particular guy.

Madjid Bouguerra has said he is going to fast, because he is used to doing it from his time at Rangers. Because the climate in Glasgow is so similar to Brazil...

If any players chooses to fast during the World Cup they will be a complete liability on the pitch.

Germany are 3/10 to beat Algeria. A 30% profit in 90 minutes, or 1.5% over a year in your savings account. I know which one I'm going to choose.

15C and cloudy for Germany game .... not hydrating though before/during excercise is not best practice, and a safey issue.

In the 90s I remember my old Kung Fu teacher, would beast us for 2 hours and not allow us a dring during the class. based on his belief that "they don't drink for 12 hours in the shaolin temple when training!!" .... couldn't really argue with him, as he could smash a coconut with his "iron palm" .....

Tis true. Exemptions are for pregnant women or ones who are in menstruation or anyone sick, or anyone on a journey. However it is also accepted that when approaching a foe/enemy, or when engaging with a foe/enemy is certain, that the fast can be broken. I think sportspeople will probably put a modern twist on that and be exempt.

It's all down to the individual though.

Article about it on the BBC - Algerian coach ( rightly ) getting unhappy with all the questions
it does seem to be optional though and some players have already said they will delay their observance

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28082432

My view though is its a bit daft to play a world cup game after fasting since dawn and in particular not taking on any liquids
