It's fair to say Keith Hill is doing well at Rochdale. He's now got them promoted twice from the league below and both their campaigns in this league have gone (or are going) well, particularly when you consider their budget. But Keith Hill can't turn players in to something they're not. I've seen Dawson play about 100 times. I don't think he's as ***** as some do (I'm thinking Conan here) but he's certainly got his limitations. He's whole hearted, but he's lumbering and he's not blessed with a lot of skill. Good technical players just passed the ball around him. That's why we were in the **** while ever he (and others like him) were in the team.

Hourihane and Bailey have got five times the skill of Dawson. There's literally no comparison. If Ramage can add a bit of steel and a bit of organisation at the back and that new winger can do the job of covering our left back, we should beat these. And it shouldn't be difficult. We've just got to match their effort.

I'll be eating those words on the train home on Setdi.

Get on Dawson as soon as he receives the ball - he quite simply cannot control a football or pass it. He has boundless energy and likes to fly into tackles.

    They'll beat us, guaranteed.

    A cliche

we have to 'earn the right to play', these skilful midfield players you refer to have seen the game pass them by recently, cos they've got neither the metal to get stuck in or a water carrier player around them that does that job. My criticism of Wilson is that this is rudimentary to L1 football, along with height and physical presence up front and a non nonsense approach at the back, he should know this so why has he tried the harder route of signing a lot of similar players, arguably luxury players some of them, without getting the basics in first? October and he's finally addressing it, bit too late if you ask me.

I'd have kept Dawson. He does a job, as above. Wilson needs to instill the willingness to earn the right to play by battling, and I sincerely hope these players he's bringing in are the answer, if he doesnt, he'll be gone before end of November, make no mistake results matter, league position matters, irrespective of people saying we need to time to transition, bottom 4 is bottom 4.

We need to wind him up. Previous history shows this is possible...

On more money at Rochdale then?

I doubt it. Offering contracts and trying to re-sign players are two different things.

No idea. But Dawson was on trial (with Bobby) at Bradford but they couldn't afford either of them. Seriously. Then he pitched up at Dale. Where he lives.

As you well know, what is likely to have happened is DW sais he wanted to keep him and it was up to the board to sort it. Given the monetary limitations at that time due to still having COG/Steele/Kennedy/Cranie there was probably a limit as to how far we could go.

I don't disagree that we lack a certain type of midfielder. I just think we can get a better one than Stephen ****ing Dawson

    Re: A cliche

Did you see my post the other day? We've exactly the same points, the same number of wins, draws and losses, as we had after 9 games in Wilson's first season in charge back in 94-95. We finished that season in 6th. Talk of sacking him now or that he's under pressure is ridiculous.

Thing is Jay, as much as I agree with you, imagine this forum and twitter post 5pm tomorrow if we've lost again and played like a bunch of wallies. Meltdown.

    The Wilson from 94/95

wouldve redecorated the dressing room walls with the players if we'd capitulated like we have done in the last few games, back then his number 1 requirement was heart and bottle, admittedly football has moved on but the Wilson Im seeing is too laid back imho, maybe behind closed doors its different but I dont read any player interviews where they've intimated that the manager has had a few home truths to say.

94/95 was our umpteenth season in what is now the Championship. Wilson hit upon a formation and formula that worked. We're a league lower now, I'd argue the standard is about the same, thats where the similarities end though at the moment. Or maybe Im just not seeing it.

Have you watched his interview on Player, SM?

It's a good watch. Dunt look like a man under pressure to me. Looks a man with a plan, a man who expected ups and downs but a confident man expecting - in the end - a successful outcome. But as he says, that could be six moths away, or six years away. As I said during the week, who has the stomach for it? In my opinion, not many on here do. Not a patient bone in their bodies.

    Plan or no plan

no manager survives very long in football these days if they repeatedly lose football matches. Signing loan players in October might be plan B but the type of player or more accurately the right blend of players shouldve been in plan A, we've an unbalanced squad of similar players not currently cutting it, audioboo talk is cheap if we get another battering on Saturday, Im afraid.
