The U's have missed out in their quest to sign Ramon Calliste - with the young forward opting to seek a full time deal elsewhere. Boss Phil Parkinson admitted to U's World that he had offered the former Manchester United a contract, but was reluctant to push the boat out on a player who has yet to make his league debut. Ramon won't be staying with us," he said. "I liked what I sawin the games he played and worked hard to negotiate a contract with him, but it came down to us having to make him our best paid player to get him here. We are working to a budget but we also have to be fair to everyone else in the squad - and a lad that's never played a league game has to come in on a certain level of money that is within our wage structure. Apparently some other club has given him the money he is looking for, so that's it." Calliste played four times in the pre-season fixtures, notching a goal per game against the U's opposition. Parky admitted that he saw some ability in the Welsh U21s international. "He had potential to do well for us and I would have liked to have got him. But I did see him as one for the future and not someone who could go straight into the first team and his salary had to reflect that if he was to sign here." arky stressed that he still has a number of irons in the fire with the season just ten days away but admitted his frustration at how the Calliste deal had eventually turned out. One of the problems we have is that we do not pay agents fees and as soon as agents know that, they will actively work as hard as they can to move their players elsewhere, because they want the money to pay their mortgages. Ramon's agent asked me where his fee was coming from and if he wasn't getting it, Ramon would be going elsewhere. At that stage, I knew it was unlikely the deal would go through."
fantastic stance on Agents fee's Lets face it, the player should pay his agent from his own earnings. Maybe none of the Colcheseter Management team has a son who is a football agent tho!
RE: fantastic stance on Agents fee's I agree, the agents are employed by the players. Lets the players pay the fee.
