Late night testing for work. Rest of team significantly younger than me. Pointed out to them that I had football programs lying about that were almost twice as old as some of them Definitely old duffer material lol.
I was in what was then called the 5th form at Wombwell High. Just a couple of months from taking my ‘O’ levels. I’m sure I went to that game but don’t remember anything about it
We won the game 4-1, with Tommy Graham 3 & Mick McCarthy scoring. It was the third time that season we had a different player scoring a hat trick for us. Brian Joicey in our 4-2 win over Halifax Town on the opening day of the season and Allan Clarke in our 6-2 victory over Port Vale on Boxing Day were the others.
I was 17 and was there that night, although my only memory is that it was a good win. I sometimes wish the internet/YouTube had been invented in the 70s, just so that the highlights would still be available now. Then again, we were probably better off without it.
