Just spent most of this morning trying to pay my old mans council tax. Rang number given 4 times stayed on line for 10minutes all calls no bleeding answer... Rang town hall for a direct number to accounts, she says number im ringing is the only number available.been on line registered an account which then wont allow me in, thinking i might have done it wrong tried re registering with another email address only for it to say this account is all ready registered at another email account...yet bloody screen flashes up account not known or words to that effect. Pass word is right .....no bloody wonder the town has problems with out standing debt re council tax ......when you want to pay it, their bleeding system doesnt work....... steam at this moment is blowing like a ships whistle.....from ears lol....rant over.... the council services are about as much use as a certain full back weve just got rid off....aaaaaarrrrrrhhhhhh
They are pretty impossible to get in touch with a lot of time, it's quicker to not pay and let them ring you!
100% don't pay and watch how quick they ring you, but when they do say " hang on i'll just go get him then make a brew and keep them waiting for 10 minute while whistling spring by Vivaldi !"........... childish I know, but little victories is what its all about
Lol ...reckon i do and i know the best little cafe under the stairs let alone in town. up date..... Ive been in to town to the council offices....explained whats gone off, poor lass on reception, couldnt apologize enough.... explained ...not your fault love....can you give me the number for the payment office..... thats the number ive rang for almost 40 minutes..... they must be busy...... im trying them now..... 5mins later.....errrr yes i see what you mean ....no one answers... i only have this number THERES ONLY ONE LINE TO CONECT YOU TO......You might like to go to the civic centre you can use the phones there for free its a matter of just holding on til they answer..... Okay love ring them again and hold on til they answer then give them my number and tell them to call me...... she replied i cant do that im too busy just to sit here waiting for them to answer.... AND IM NOT.....JESUS... cant i just pay over the counter if you get me a balance i ask....... Sorry Bsly council no longer have that facility to accept cash.... and we wonder why the town is a 5h1t hole... they dont want our money....
Perhaps they have an Italian in charge! You should come here mate. Bureaucracy is an art form. For example re-registered UK car took 4 weeks and 6 separate visits to 2 towns. At one office had to go from 6th floor to ground floor to buy three 'marca di bollo' to take back to the 6th floor to get them stamped. No one thought to put both counters on the same floor! You don't get bills for rates you have to quess what laws they passed recently that change how tax is calculated then work out what you should pay and when and then pay at the post office. They do not send bills out. That would be far too easy! If you are late or get it wrong expect a whacking great fine! Even the accountant (you need one here) hasn't a clue what is going on since the Govt haven't worked out how to calculate some of the latest taxes.
If its any consolation, Rotherham are no better. Last time I paid over the internet, they sent me a nice clear text receipt with my full bank card details on it - including my name, address, 16 digit card no, expiry date and security code!
Leeds isn't fantastic. It's easy enough to pay online but you just have to put your reference number in and how much you want to pay then click enter. I always worry that it I get just 1 digit of my number wrong I'll be paying someone else's and never know. This is the form to fill in, at least it's easy enough to understand but it's a bit too simplistic for my liking: Edit: it looks like Barnsley is the same. I presume you have - but have you tried this link? https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/pay I think you only have to register to check your balance etc. but you can make a payment there without registering.
Correct JD ☆ Just go on the site she's said n put your account number in n pay. The site is a tw@t to navigate round mind.......and any payments don't always show up on your bank account straight away so it's hard to find out if it went through.......and you have to ask for an email receipt. Otherwise it's ok I was once worried that a payment hadn't gone through so went to the payment centre in Hoyland ( yes one did used to exist). They said "computer says no" so oaid again by cheque. Being the last payment anc they had c0cked up they ended up having to pay me back. I complained about the web site abd it eventually got upgraded to this *****....oh well
Thanks guys, ive got my dads payment card but the old boy is confused on how much he needs to pay to settle his account. I was trying to find out the outstanding balance, so i could then pay it up in full.
Maybe worth contacting your local councillor, or even 'sir' steve as he's the head honcho, either by email or even the old fashioned thing, a letter. It would be interesting to see if you get a reply at all...
Birmingham are as bad, if not worse - I've never once conducted a straightforward, hassle-free transaction with them. My tactic now is to do everything to do with the council by post. If I need anything doing or changed I type it up into a letter, include my telephone number and basically wait for them to sort it out. It can take a good few weeks, but at least you're not having to phone back every day or spend any of my own time chasing them.
It's what you get when you streamline everybody into redundancy. For example I know in Sheffield the Council has less than 10 people to answer calls.
