(banghead) ffs... (doh) Can see where its come through... must come under decking... round top of floorboards and you can see where it has dug in from the roof... (plasterboard)
Is bacon the best to put on the trap? was thinking about buying one of them cage taps.. and not kill it, then let it out in field... few hundred yard away...
By the way can rats climb vertically up walls wwith no other things to grab on too...cheers?

They'll have problems going up a vertical wall with no grip at all although bare brick will probably give them enough of a ladder. They're excellent climbers. I used to love watching mine treat my living room like an assault course. Mini base runners! My rats used to love peanut butter so I assume wild ones will too. Then again, rats love owt. Bacon would have that tempting aroma.
RE: Don't think they would like dog too much (lol) Dog gerrin near poison..
I actually havnt seen the rat... but you can tell it has been 1.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Possum
A possum is any of about 64 small to medium-sized arboreal marsupial species native to Australia, New Guinea, and Sulawesi (and introduced to New Zealand). ??????

You can get humane electronic repellers which emit high pitched noises that the rats can't stand. No good if you've got a pet hamster though.
Good Advice! If its an adult rat,you will have trouble with traps, they are pretty smart,Poison you can buy yourself takes 7-14days,Ring the council, their pest controllers have the best stuff, and will give you good advice on prevention,if it finds somewhere to live indoors, you could have a major problem very quickly.
Best to trap and release rather than poison, that way you don't have a decaying animal on your premises and you haven't caused any unnecessary suffering. Keep trapping until you've got them all, it's unlikely there's only one and they're devilishly good at looking like each other.
Get a ferret or a bad tempered tomcat. i've had both and never had rats for more than a few seconds. ps. i'd probably hire my tomcat out for a bit, but you'd probably prefer the rats, he's the feline equivalent of Vlad the impaler
No, mine lived for about five years, too heartbroken to replace them. I took my daughter to a small zoo recently where she got the chance to handle one and it was fantastic. the zoo had a snake kids could handle at the same time, but the ferret broke off and looked well up for sorting the snake out. given that i am frightened of snakes,, resepect to the ferret.
