Be the ultimate irony if they appoint a BFC legend tomorrow, and sack Flicker, based on the groundswell of opinion for him now. Expect the unexpected......
Hopefully that will not be the case but you could understand how that might happen. Since Hill's sacking anybody reading this board would have taken the impression the fans in general wanted a clean break from the previous regime. That has only changed in the last 5 hours. However isn't there talk of it definitely being an internal appointment? So maybe they were just waiting until after today to see if it would be Flitcroft or Branson.
I can see the job going to someone else. I think it's just a mark of where the fans are right now, that we're all expecting the worst. Surely we can't mess this up for a 3rd time...surely. If Flicker was getting it, why wouldn't it have been announced tonight? I won't lie, i'm bricking it..
That's what I reckon. They wanted to give Flicker the game today to show he can carry on the improvement we have seen since he took over and Mellon came in. If it went tits up today we would have been seeing Branson and Moore tomorrow. Think (hope and praying) it will now be Flicker and Mellon.
I've been keen to retain Flicker all along in some capacity, theory being why pay someone compensation when you can actually employ them for that money. He appears to have played himself into the hot seat, which I didn't see coming until the Butcher fiasco but good luck to him. I don't know if Mickie Mellon would be commited for the rest of the season as I think he would be after his own job at some point. Would that be the opportunity to bring in a popular ex player as Flicker's number 2? And really whose decision should that be? Given the circumstances, I think a bit of flexibility would be in order which is where I got the idea for Flignett.
I'm also bricking it! I had my sights set on SOD, then Butcher and now Flicker. I'd be 10 times as disappointed as before if they got it wrong this time though because Flicker has had to prove himself and he's the obvious safe option. He's our best chance of survival!
It shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody if Flicker is overlooked. Over the last fortnight his name has not been in the running as far as rumours go. On here, hardly anyone considered him, every name under the sun has been mentioned but rarely his. Flicker was seen as a gonner and the only debate surrounded the next man. Some comments regarding Flicker were extremely negative, perhaps understandably. The clamour for a new man with fresh ideas was huge. We then beat a woeful Leeds team and now Flicker is THE man. I concede I also was impressed almost to the point of wanting Flicker to get the nod. However, the club is apparently wanting to appease the fans with the appointment... realign I should say. Up until about 6 hours ago, Flicker would have been the wrong choice entirely to re-align the fans. So if the board picked a former player (Daz Moore, Higgy etc) and now are duty bound to appoint him, the fans shouldn't criticise the club too much.
Totally agree. Surely the board can't get this wrong. Anyone watching the game today could see those players giving everything for Flicker. He surely has to get the job until the end of the season.
I don't think he'll get it. Hopefully the board won't just take today and make an informed decision. 12 hours ago folk were saying they wouldn't watch us with Flicker in charge. How he was tarred with the Hill brush. Part of the problem etc. I disagreed with 'em but that was the opinion. When Radio Sheffield mentioned the announcement tomorrow Flicker looked completely bemused. You don't announce an announcement before asking the bloke you're announcing. I hope he gets it, I wanted him from the start but I don't think he will. Which I think will be a mistake.
I'm glad I'm not The Don. Can't do right for doing wrong. Marlon Harewood is very long. and The Full Ponty is mentally disabled
