That needs suggesting to someone at the club pretty quick smart. Would be such a psychological boost to the players in a vital match. Otherwise I can't see many making the trek down in February - especially as it's a featured match on The Football League Show that night, meaning there will be plenty of live streams available.
I'm sure they'd love to and would be a fantastic gesture. Could they afford to give away a few grand?
Does any one know anybody at the club to get a message across??? This is a great idea and would boost the players and fans alike
I disagree. I think that when the club's budget is so tight we shouldn't be spending a large amount of money to significantly increase Bristols budget in a fight against us. If BFC spend money laying on buses for 2,800 fans it'll cost a fortune and will gift Bristol upto £50,000. If we are to go spending money to help our supporters I'd much rather that they did something for a home game to pack OUR ground and help OUR budget instead of our rivals.
Saw O'Driscoll on the FLS last night, and thought "thank **** we dodged that bullet". Miserable basterd. They're nailed on for 24th. Said it all year. And Wednesday are going down. Still think we 'can' get out of it, but not so sure we will. And Hudders and Brum are dropping like stones. Going to be interesting.
That's the thing isn't it. Can we afford to give away a few grand while simultaneously gifting our relegation rivals enough money to loan a new striker until the end of the season. If we have got a few thousand to spend wouldn't that money be better spent buying materials to kit out a proper supporters bar at Oakwell which would increase attendances at home games and provide increased revenue for years to come?
Interesting perspective. Isn't a win infinitely more valuable though? Anything we can do to boost our chances of that, I'm up for. Possibly biggest game in years
How much are tickets for the Bristol City game? Be cheap I would imagine, and even if we got free travel as being suggested, I still doubt we'd take more than a thousand. I mean, we can't get fans in Oakwell for games against Wednesday or Leeds.
Look how many we took to Charlton on the strength of a £5 match ticket. It still cost about £50 to get there but will responding to a freebie/discount.
Agree with that Seems like a bonkers idea to me. Get people spending their money at Oakwell not at Bristol.
Can't wait for Wednesday away. Just think, if it's still tight between us (making it a MASSIVE game) we could take more fans there than they brought here. And that would be something to stick to them for years to come. Beating them in the last minute after Daggers kicks Kirkland in the head would be a bonus.
Id have to agree with ST's sentiments on this. Im all for realigning with the fans, but im not sure offering cheap travel to a far flung away game is beneficial to the club. Hoe many did we take to Southend that time when travel was free, I know that was a cup game on a Friday night but still, I dont think it was many, and the club got a share of the gate receipts at least. We'd be better off tying to get the fans back into our own ground, as our home attendances are little short of shocking
Re: Agree with that I dare say the majority of people who travel to away games are ST holders so wouldn't have any affect on the numbers turning up at Oakwell. Seemed to work fine when we played Southend in the FA Cup.
Re: Agree with that We got half the gate receipts from the Southend cup game. Putting on free travel for the Bristol game means a load of outlay for no return. I'm all for putting forward ideas that will get more people watching Barnsley games and bring more money to the club, but this is just the club spending money when we haven't got that much. I don't see any benefit in this at all.
