Hiya all Yesterday I received a reply to an email I sent to GS. I'm not going to go into detail about what I asked and the reply given as it was a personal email to Gordon, who I have had contact with now for a little while on and off Suffice to say the gist was that there is surprise at the flack they are taking from certain areas re new players. They are looking to strengthen the squad as they know full well we have to make a good attempt to stay in this league. As and when the right players who will benefit the team and push us forward are found they will be happy to make announcements. They are not prepared to sign players who wont enhance the team. If you will all recall what AR said right after the final, the lads who got us promoted deserve the chance to see if they can do it at a higher level so lets give em that chance. Dont forget, a ball hasnt been kicked in anger yet. If we start the season and get tonked out of sight every game then by all means criticise but surely we should all be pulling as one to start the season on a positive note. Last season how many of you thought at the start the team was poor and we were heading for a relegation battle (I did) and I was proved wrong. Just lets hold our nerve, the club is in good hands and yes before all the screaming starts I am a fan of GS, PC AR for one simple reason...a few years ago we were on the verge of going bust and not having a team. This was down to people letting the tail wag the dog, I for one am happy to have my team back and to have a promotion under our belt and if we have to show some patience then I think its a small price to pay. Get behind everybody at the club and hold your nerve, its going to be a roller coaster season but would you rather be in the pub league with the pikeys. Sheff wed had the same problems as us last year but through the season they got stronger and with shrewd management they stayed up....so can we Preparing for the **** to hit the tin helmet... rant over BT
Good post! I for one am grateful that the club is in great hands and who could have believed we would be promoteed last year and have an experience like Cardiff. Leave it to PC, GS and AR to sign the right players at the right time
No, I agree.
People are obviously concerned, but then we aren't running a club and paying the bills.
I said before that GS, PC and Co have worked so hard to get promotion that they will not let the benefits of that slip away without a fight.
We back the club at all costs and trust those in charge. We have to.

Well said. We have to trust these guys and see what they come up with. If we do start getting hammered then I would then expect them to do something about that too. Remember, they are as passionate and enthusiastic as anyone else on here about BFC, perhaps more so as they are in the thick of it with managing, dealing ect. Anyway well don AR, PC GS so far so good and we still have a month to go before kick off. See what happens shall we.
fully agree but......and its a big but..... "the lads who got us promoted deserve the chance to see if they can do it at a higher level so lets give em that chance" Carbon Vaughn (ok this one doesn't really count) Conlon (ok this one doesn't really count) Mcphail Burns (ok I will 50/50 this one) Shuker were heavily involved. Players who got us up have left, so in reality.... we haven't really got the same squad who got us up have we. The majority yes, but the players who have left, need replacing as a priority. we have a weaker team than lastyear as things currently stand, and their is no way of buttering this up, without signings. I trust the people in charge, but everyone else is already wheeling and dealing, we maybe too, but at the end of the day, their isn't anything really to show apart from highlighting the players we have missed out on, oh and coulson... I for one, hope there are a couple of announcements really soon. I have already renewed the ticket, but just would like to add... people waiting to see who we buy.... why? selling tickets gives more revenue to go that extra mile to buy, without the sales we cannot, chicken and egg situation isn't it!
Nice to see the other side of the coin and I agree with Shep's sentiments in the main But Shepherd wants to stop thinking fans expressing opinions is naturally criticism.
We care.

RE: Nice to see the other side of the coin and I agree with Shep's sentiments in the main In a way, I can understand Shepherd's reasons for going on the defensive. He can't win. If he doesn't sign anybody then the prevailing view will be that we don't want to stay up. If he permits us to sign players and we get relegated, then he'll be abused for putting the future of the club at risk. He has to strike a very fine balancing act, and it's not a task I'd personally wish to take on. He's trying to acquire players good enough to ensure survival without breaking the bank. However, the bank is already broken as we have no money without holding out the begging bowl to Cryne again. That said, we as fans do want to know what is happening. Our anxiety is rising with only four weeks to kick-off and no sign of quality OR quantity arriving to bolster our squad. Shepherd's priority, though, is to ensure that we have a financially-viable club to support when his tenure is over. In order to do that, tough decisions have to be made now.
RE: Nice to see the other side of the coin and I agree with Shep's sentiments in the main It's a thankless task I'll grant you. However, being in charge of a football club is a very public job, so unfortunately stick is an occupational hazard.
Suppose you've got to develop a thick skin and have faith in what you're doing is the right thing. At the end of the day some on here and Barnsley supporters in general will never be happy. Like the c-unt mercilessly slating hayes at Oldham last year, as Hayes danced between 3 defenders to set McPhail up.
We've got the Chron and offishul webshite for announcements, so crack on I say.

We all have great respect for GS, PC and AR...........but thats not the point We all know the club is in good hands But we have missed a golden opportunity to build on the atmosphere generated at Cardiff We have lost the momentum A couple of decent signings a few weeks after Cardiff and the town would have been buzzing Foster and the young lad from Man U would not have provided that We are now a few weeks away from the start of the season and if we keep the current team I think we will get slaughtered next season A few 4 or 5 nils against can undermine any players confidence If we have these at the begining of the season it will be very difficult to recover In a nutshell...........THE FANS ARE WORRIED S)
RE: Nice to see the other side of the coin and I agree with Shep's sentiments in the main I agree with you about the public nature of the job - but not everyone is a publicity-hungry character like Ridsdale. Rightly or wrongly, Shepherd feels that he got his fingers burned by posting messages on here for our consumption. That may have coloured his view with regard to making statements in any shape or form. When he DOES speak out, he comes across as defensive because of his prior experiences. Sometimes it's better to say nowt. That way, nobody can twist your words! I'm sure that he's working his proverbials off to bring us in some players.
RE: fully agree but......and its a big but..... Richie wants to give the players a chance to prove themselves in the championship. They are young, and he thinks they can improve playing against better quality teams. Richie was reluctant to sign a quality forward, when the Windass deal fell through last season, hoping that his lads would see the job through, fortunately for us fans they brilliantly did. He his quoted as saying, the defence is ok and we will be alright in that department, looking at the photograph of Robbie Williams in the Chronical i beg to differ. Injuries, suspensions will all mount up through-out the season. We need a strong squad to compete. Lets hope Andy and the Board will bring in the quality we need, and i agree that most of the new signings will be loan players.
RE: We all have great respect for GS, PC and AR...........but thats not the point But if the players aren't there, and those that we want go elsewhere for vast wages we cannot compete with, what do you want them to do exactly ?
Sign someone just to give the fans summat to talk about ?
If they're going to do it, they'll do it right.

agree to an extent but last years squad is diminished.
No matter what you think about carbon, burns, shuker mcfail they were part of the squad and played a sunstantial role in our promotion.
These player need to be replaced with as good if not better otherwise our championship tenure will be short lived.
Criticism is deserved at this stage as the impetous is being lost already
It's time for the management team to get fingers out, get replacements signed and stop the excuses.
My financial backing has already been given to the club and its time they did something with it.

Public comments like: "box office" and "promotion is worth £1.5 million" dont help manage expectations though.
and just when... did anyone say we WILL sign box office players. The comment was, "we are more likely to find the funds if a player is classed as box office" That did not say we ARE going to sign box office players, and also didn't say we WILL find the funds. ie it said MORE LIKELY. I wish people would drop this box office statement, it has clearly been taken out of context to what was said. 2nd point is probably valid though. although it was said that it worth probably about £1.5m now, worth could mean a multitude of things, increase in season tickets more match by match ticket sales (ie non ST) increased revenue with merchandise increase in tv funds etc etc now 1.5 million, doesn't instantly become available overnight, but thats what budgets forcasts are for, which is another arguement.
Mostly agree with the sentiment Also Agree with Dirk (!) Dont know why Gordon is so touchy - no matter what any chairman or manager does some fans will always think they are doing the wrong thing. Ultimately all that matters takes place on the pitch - good performances fans come back bad ones they stay away. I dont think we will be as bad as some on here make out and I'd rather be a Barnsley fan than a Cardiff one at the moment - I dont think we will be in admin this time next year
RE: We all have great respect for GS, PC and AR...........but thats not the point No, some fans are worried. I'm not, please don't class me in with the spineless brigade.
