We would love to deploy plain clothed stewards etc and get the assholes out but as everyone knows the club is on a sticky wicket financially and can only afford the minimum numbers of stewards… With the resources we have the club think we do a good job, with the best will in the world if some one wants to shout racist remarks or even run on the pitch there’s not much we can do, Barnsley has a good record and reputation with the FA and as with anything there will always be the odd complaint which we always act on as best we can. As for the stewards they are employed on a part time basis with the exception of the Search Team, a little respect from supporters now and again wouldn’t go a miss, after all… no stewards… no games.
good reputation? do we really? I thought that we had a poor reputation of not being able to control our fans after the liverpool game and being reported to the FA on more than one occasion by referees for fans behaviour.
And if failing to report incidents is doing a good job then keep up the work mr steward.

RE: good reputation? I think we're talking about now, not years ago before the present security company were in place. And "Mr Steward" stands side by side with the police in the control room so they obviously get to know everything he does. .
RE: good reputation? maybe the police get to know everything that he does but he doesnt get to know everything that the stewards in the stand do, or pretend to not see/hear etc.
And they dont always report things to the proper authorities and that is a fact.

RE: good reputation? I have a solution. To free up some wages to employ a few more stewards...sack Rob Knowles.
Why do the majority of stewards I see at the game appear to be lasses probably no older than 20? Now whilst I don't mind seeing the lass on our gangway just how is she supposed to deal with some foul mouth yob? I suppose they could be either working on the theory that most people might watch their language more than if it was a bloke - or perhaps they've chosen areas where they know what most of the cliental are like as it's mainly season ticket holders in the area I sit.
From experience as a pub landlady and obviously dealing with drunken foul mouthed people, it is far better to send a woman in to sort it out than a man. Sending a man to deal with it often antagonised the situation.
Tell me more. How many post match briefings have you been to. And, given what's already been said today, how would you handle it if you spotted someone chanting?
3 and I would not stand by and allow somebody to commit a crime
for example on saturday when the racist chanting was clearly audible why did nobody make the decision to position officers or stewards near the trouble area to at the very least act as a deterrent.
