All i could think was he his saying what we all thought at pre season. Bit slow off the mark!

The other thing was 'we need an old head in there'.

Fk me ridgid if we didnt let a certain mr bobby hassell go. He ticks all the boxes. Hassell himself says hes never been as fit. Im not one of these fans that bangs the drum all the time about him but boy could he be the one to do the job we need now. Wilson says these players are hard to get. Correct me if im wrong but bobby is still a free agent.

Swallow your pride Danny and get him in. Get cranie at right back instead of brown who is a massive disappointment and hassel would be the old headed defensive midfielder we need.

It's not just you. He'd be ideal. But then, he wasn't picked last season. Danny preferred even Kennedy at right back rather than select Bobby. He also picked anybody but Bobby, in midfield, barring the two games at Leeds and against Bolton.

Weird thing is, I was at Leeds today and saw the unit that is Rudy Austin boss the midfield. Absolutely killed Jacob, and his teammates. However, a year ago (nearly), Bobby came in from the cold (ice cold) and dominated Austin in such a fashion it was incredible. Only those who went and saw it can understand what I mean. He did him (and Leeds' other mids) all around the park. And after seeing Austin today, boss younger, fitter and faster lads, it served only to enhance my view that on that afternoon (danny's BFC return) I witnessed one of THE outstanding individual performances from a reds player in my lifetime.

Yet I'm told (on twitter tonight) that "his legs have gone, he's too slow etc etc".

********. You can't make those statements without evidence to back em up.

I will never buy the myth that Bobby was no longer good enough because, well, I never saw him play and ever thought "hmmm, Bobby was **** today and maybe he's not good enough anymore.."

It won't happen though. Bob's gone. Sad as it is. But you can read my amazing interview with him in WSB6, coming soon.... :D

I just don't think he would stay injury free. His last couple of seasons with us he was always injured.

No, it's not just you. He would be the perfect fit to remove one of our key weaknesses at the moment.

No he wasn't. As I say, read the interview.

He missed about three weeks last season under Danny. Ere, he was on his bench unused for 12 games....

I love Bobby Hassell. He was a great servant to our club. However, if he is as good as a lot of people on here believe him to be, why hasn't he got a club?

He was never a brilliant player when he was younger. He was a 100%er, a player that gave his all every week and usually put in a decent/good, if unspectacular, performance. To compare him, as a player, to any of the great players we've had in the past is ridiculous. We're confusing our feelings we have for Bobby as a person with his abilities as a player. I'm not saying he was ****, he wasn't, he was OK and very reliable, but he's no longer what he once was. The idea that at 34 he can come in to our side and make such a massive difference is pie in the sky for me. He couldn't do that when he was in his pomp. IMHO we have better players at the club right now.

When Simon Davey first played Hassell in midfield he got no end of abuse and it never let up. I doubt if Hassell has played more than a couple of dozen games in midfield in his entire Barnsley career. And there's no way, at 34 when his pace has gone completely, he'd be able to cope better at right back in a league that is full of fast wingers. And that's before we mention that he hasn't been able to play more than half a dozen games on the spin without getting injured in the last 3 years.

It's not as if we even need a saviour. We've played 8 games and only lost 3 of them. Win a couple on the bounce and we'll be just outside the play-offs.

This makes me sound like I dislike Bobby. I don't, I think he's great, but he served his time and now he's gone.

IMHO we really do need an experienced midfield player to help the young squad along, but I think we can do a hell of a lot better than Bobby Hassell. If we want to pick a team on sentiment, then yes, he'd play every week. I'd prefer to pick a team on ability and I'd like to give a team more than 8 games together before we right them off completely. It's not even as if the results are that bad.

I agree 100% about Bobby. Swallow your pride Danny and be big enough to admit you made a big mistake.

I'd hate to read what you thought were you not a fan of Bobby...

I do agree though, that he served his time (like a spell int nick) and now he's left, we've moved on etc. But I can't blame folk, nor myself either for mentioning him when folk keep referring to us needing a right back and holding midfielder. We had a bloke here already, on small wages, who could play anywhere if need be. A bloke who lives here, loves being here, represents the town in every way that is positive. A true legend for me. Isn't that what we could have done with, his experience, being able to educate the youngsters recruited about all things Tarn?

In his pomp, I remember him coming in and making massive differences. The cup games with Liverpool and Chelsea spring to mind. He was a consistent, 7 out of 10 performer throughout his time here. I'd love a few like that now. His win percentage over his last three seasons is frightening. I know he barely got a kick, but that only serves to illustrate his effect. In my opinion of course.

Do I really think it's possible? No. Do I really, deep down, want him back? No. But I'm disappointed that we got rid. He'd have been ideal on occasion this season, and aside from playing, he'd be a fantastic role model for the younger element of Danny's squad and a great addition to our coaching staff. But we ****** him off and out, along with jebends like Frimpong. Via text message.

As for writing the team off or saying the results are bad, I think only a handful would be guilty of that and I'm not one of them. This is a rebuild. Instantaneous rebuilds? Dunt exist. And the results are a bit 'meh'. It's the performances that have been largely poor. For me anyway.

Would it be harsh to say Danny hasn't a clue? Yes. But he's not got a clue what his best team or best formation to play them in is. Clearly. But including Lita, Jennings et al in them, no matter their displays, that's the barmy characteristic that winds me up with managers I eventually fall out with.

Anyway, I'm tired, am off to bed, nice little debate that and we can all reconvene another day to discuss the thing we all love. :)

If anyone saw Browns positional sense at Fleetwood, they would know that Hassell couldn't do a worse job...if the legs have gone, that's another matter..... we won't know till we see, but certainly as a stop gap he's worth a go.

Well ben and danny said they wanted to get players in the wanted to be here. I think he could still do the biz and ge definitely wanted to be here.

Yes hes moved on etc but it just smacks of hypocracy when they spout lines like the above then say they cant easily get hold of players of bobbys class.

    Cest la vie.

As we say... Footballs ****! Lol

An old head and ability to read a game is worth a couple of yards even when the legs dont move as quick as they used to - versus berry whos bouncing all over the pitch like a giddy labrador.

At least today wilson dropped him. Hes not up to this level yet and needs to be introduced gradually but hes been thrown in at the deep end and was getting games week in week out.

He could also learn a lot from a bobby hassel. There aint many players to pass on that wisodm at our club.
