The contract he as been offered is reduced, but i think even though its reduced, he could still be one if not thee biggest earner at the club if he dose indeed sign the deal offered to him, and wile the wage he as been offered can be paid if we are a championship club, but should we go down this year his wage will cripple us so they have offered him a one year deal so we are not paying wages we can't afford should we be relegated If this is the case well done BFC
This isn't the case though, is it. Flicker has gone on record as saying it's his age. Handled badly, disrespectful and puts pressure on Alnwick Not well done BFC
You've read a lot between those lines that nobody else has. Where is the hint that he will be one of the highest earners? I don't see that anywhere, what I do see is the manager saying 'he'll probably get offered better somewhere else' whilst saying that you can't take a risk offering 2 year deals to over the hill keepers in their 20's in case they end up bringing a zimmer frame to work with them.
I agree tomfun, first piece of negative news out of Oakwell this summer. I hope it doesn't backfire on us.
What on earth is disrespectful about that? The lad has been well paid for what he has done and his contract is coming to an end. He as been offered another on terms that the club feel are commensurate with its current position budgetry constraints. If he wishes to explore other avenues he is quite entitled to do so. That's how life is in football arena's. On the disrespect issue, I can think of a couple of instances where he (or his agent) have also been disrespectful to the club with comments to the press.
The fact is that 28 for a goalkeeper is only the beginning of your prime years. Fair enough about not knowing which division we'll be in from one year to the next and being careful, but I do find that comment disrespectful. He'd have to be about 34 for me to see that as an appropriate comment
