They're not wrong to be fair, it's a long trip between Reading and Barnsley.

 

They beat us at oakwell every time they come here. Should be the one they're looking forward to. Plus it's a nicer stadium than theirs.

 

To be fair to them, the reason given is fair, and our own fans have said the same.

Compared to some grounds, including theirs, there is very little going off around the ground at oakwell. Burger van or 2 and a bloke shouting "half time draw",

That said, tough ****! We can't all boast ridiculously rich owners.

Perhaps they are dreading go back to Oakwell because it highlights their own failures. Their new, post-Elm Park fan base is used to the shiny new(ish) "Mad Stad" which they only associate with Premier League glory and not the old Third and Fourth Division days. They may be at Second Division level, same as us, but the very fact that they have to play the likes of us must grate on their delicate Berkshire souls.

"Teams like Barnsley" don't belong in their world. We are the poor, northern outpost that has to be endured rather than enjoyed and respected. I know that not ALL Reading fans will feel that way but I bet you an awful lot of the new lot will think just that.

So Reds......let's PLEASE not roll over when they come to Oakwell this season, like last year. Reading are due a thumping from us so this is the season to do it. Let them be in no doubt about their place in the hierarchy

 

The irony is that my outstanding memory of their stadium is that there's nothing anywhere near it.

Suppose that's what you get when you go with official coaches and get dropped off outside the stadium.

Feeling is mutual.

 

What is there round Reading Stadium , sod all

 

Went last season for first time and had a walk all way round. There were loads outside drinking despite it being freezing, and lots of choice by way of mobile catering etc.

Years since I went now, so my memory might be a bit hazy. League cup game under Simon Davey. Special K won a penalty in the last minute and we won 2-1.

I'd not been to Reading since they played at Elm Park. Never fancied going there. Always think of them as a soulless club like Coventry Mk Dons and QPR.

well the Reading stadium is a bit crap for facilities as its out from the town. At least at Oakwell the tarn is in easy walking to our ground. As for saying there is nowt there then they need their 'bumps' reading... They could easily stop at Meadowhall on the way up or drop into Wentworth pre match. I am guessing they are basing this on fans who travel by coach ...as they would be parked up on the Queens and would perhaps have no idea where to go for pubs, restaurant's etc. But they are from the 'beautiful south' so anything north of the Watford gap is as heathen as the tribes north of the wall in 'Game of thrones' ... the reading area is a s h i t hole tbh.

 

I'm sure the article, as titled, is light hearted in nature, but whilst there is a limited amount of things to do around Oakwell, I can't think of many other grounds that are so close to the town centre, which offers plenty. I guess that away games at, say, a coastal ground such as Blackpool offer loads to do and a full weekend, but I can't think of anything that's not available within a 10 min walk from Oakwell that you would want prior to a game?

I wouldn't worry about that, they love going to Brighton - about as far from proper football as you can get that stadium. We've got a proper football ground, with proper stands and real meat pies.

 

And it's not even in Brighton and is a ball ache to get away from at the end... Plus it's not that near to Reading either! Though probably quite quick via London.

 

"Brighton easy enough to get to!" It's easily the worst ground in the country to get to in my opinion and lots more have the same opinion judging by the write-ups.. Very little parking and the ground is 4 miles outside Brighton in the middle of nowhere. We drove down and stayed in Brighton for the weekend and it was a nightmare getting to the ground. Queues a mile long at the train station meant you had to set off at least an hour before kick-off. After the game you either come out 15 minutes early or just didn't bother trying to get back until a good hour or two after the match.
