should give him a chance if he wants it. www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/stan-collymore-on-michael-johnson-why-we-mustnt-1546758
No ta, who knows how long it would take getting his mind and body fit for competitive football again.
Maybe if we were safe in mid table, Hemsie. But we don't need another Mido at this time of the season.
On what basis? Mido was a bit fat. Johnson is a bit fat, is getting mental health treatment and has expressed a desire to be left alone and live a private life. I think there's a much longer road back for Johnson and a club in our position can't afford to fund that recovery. If we did we would be speculating on the hope that he one day recovers some fraction of the form he showed several years ago, despite the fact that he has almost entirely missed the years when a footballer really develops.
It's a nice thought HT, but not in our position. Offer him the chance to come and train with us, but at his own risk, and for no reward. If he gets the desire to play again, then maybe we could take a chance. But, as mentioned, we took the chance on Mido and got burnt. We can't risk it again.
Johnsons done as any kind of footballer until he sorted his head out. Football comes last after ale, snap and gambling at the very least. Not including the fact he is made from biscuits.
I said as much last week, johnson's situation is totally different to Mido's. i believe the right, compassionate manager and supportive team mates could bring him back. I would monitor the situation and perhaps offer him the opportunity to train and maybe work with the youngsters.
