First White, then Hammill, now Mawson, all of whom have been superb recently. Possibly Williams too (don't know why he wasn't in the squad tonight) who would have been an ideal replacement for Hammill. George Williams was superb on Saturday and it sounded like he had another good game tonight (haven't been, so can't vouch for that) and Roberts stepped in to help towards another clean sheet. But we're back to being a little too inexperienced again, particularly in defence. These two lads may go on to be great players, but they've very little football league experience between them, so we've got to expect the odd mistake. Bree is in the same boat at right back. Let's hope we can keep hold of Long to help guide them through games. Best bit of business we could do is signing him permanently, or at least on loan until the end of the season. As much as I like Nyatanga as a player, I think he has showed this season he's not an organiser and his game suffered when asked to perform in that role. For my money, our best 11 is as good as anything else in the league. We finally get them all knitted together and the injuries start hitting. Well played tonight though reds. Probably the best result of the season.
Every silver lining has a cloud. I think that I might be a Jonah. Last week, whilst everyone else was getting excited about the turning of a corner, I was expressing concern about completing the season with such a paper thin squad. A week later, we have lost 3 certain starters and possibly a fourth. It looks like we might need the 7th Cavalry before the Swindon and Fleetwood games.
It is a shame about the injuries as you say. However, this is a poor league this season and if we can either get our own players to step up to the plate, and/or perhaps an astute signing or 2, We could continue this run and the play off places come within touching distance. A very big ask, but if you can't hope then nothing is achievable. Well done you super reds.
Can't see White being out long, he had inflamation of the pubis area. He's had an injection so wouldn't think it would be too long.
To be fair we've been pretty lucky with injuries. Had Williams out for 3 months, Hourihane for 1 & Scowen for 2. Barely had one other than that. Hopefully it'll bring them even closer together, smaller group, defiance & all that. I'd like to think Roberts has a point to prove & the rest of them are thinking 'we're not a one man team, we can win without Hammill'
Injuries are inevitable and the three players in particular are big dents. What I'm most pleased about is that LJ hasn't panicked and started dicking about with formation. Kept the shape and made straight swaps. I think Williams has been exceptional under the circumstances. Mawson is a shame, but I personally think Long would have been the bigger miss. I think Robbo will do ok in there...plus the throw gives us summat a bit different. Obviously you can't replace Hammill, and that's gonna be a huge loss. In other news, Pearson's move doesn't seem to have made much difference at all, with Brownhill in there and now Josh coming back in. Also, Bree has slotted straight in and looks the part. Lots of positives. We'll miss Hammill badly though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
