Chris Porter seems to tick all the right boxes.A northern lad who possibly knows Ryan Kidd from his time at Bury.Six foot plus with a very decent goal ratio.Evidently hes available for around £200k.I think Billy Sharp could be a perfect partner for Mr Porter.A very clever player in and around the box,Sheff Utd fans think Blackwells style of football doesn't suit a player like Sharp.A bid of around £1million could tempt McCabe to sell.A player who first caught my eye playing for England youths and again last weekend Lee Holmes.Again a northern lad with a very good left foot I'm sure he could fill that problem area for us.Because of Southamptons financial situation a bid of around £2/3 hundred thousand should tempt them.So there we are this football larks easy int it.

Now then BMW, you should not be posting topics that have a sense of common sense or realism. How dare you suggest players not playnig in the premiership or La Liga. I totally agree with the majority who think we should put a counter bid for Kaka or try and tempt Ronaldo into coming to us. I am sorry, don't appreciate your comments at all. Get Davey out for not getting Berbatov and get rid of Cryne for only ploughing millions of his own money into our club! Common sense has no place on this board anymore!

Finally someone who doesn't pluck targets out of thin air

Or a premiership team's reserve side!

Chris Porter would be a good start, and Billy Sharp an even better follow up. Can't comment on Holmes as I've not seen him play, but I would keep an eye on the Man City squad for players, especially as I think they'll sign 3 or 4 players next week.

Will Michael Ball be happy kicking the touchline for the rest of the season? We need a left footed defender/midfielder.

    Ched Evans

why not Ched Evans on loan from City with a view to buy? unlikely to get in their first team in a hurry and played in the Championship before at Norwich.

Good shout on Porter & Sharp, mate

Like Loko, though,I can't comment on Holmes as I don't know anything about him. You'd certainly make a decent football scout, buddy.(Y)

You seem to be getting a lot of plaudits for mentioning Chris Porter

Yet when Dreamboy continually brings him up he gets dogs abuse.

Funny thing this BBS innit. Seems it's not what you say, but who you are.

3 good shouts there, but I can't see the Blunts selling Sharp at the moment. They've just sold Beattie and only have Henderson, Webber & Stokes besides Sharp. If they sign a striker or 2 over the next fortnight we might just stand a chance.
It seems like Porter will wait until the summer for a fat signing on fee. He did the same at Oldham. I must admit I thought Holmes was the best player on the park in last weeks Southampton game.

I agree. I could also add 2 or 3 more with the same attributes and around the same money. None of which Davey will be looking at. It'll be a foreign name thatll have us searching wikipedia and youtube in hope.

I hope for our sake and his that Hume comes back in the same physical and mental state as before he was nearly murdered.

RE: You seem to be getting a lot of plaudits for mentioning Chris Porter

The inner workings of the BBS is that. His scoring record in his career is.........

    2003-2005 Bury 71 (18)

    2005-2007 Oldham Athletic 66 (28)

    2007- Motherwell 55 (21)

So he's scored goals at every club he's been at and at a good ratio. Three clubs, in three different leagues and in two different countries. Wikipedia says the following..........

There has been recent transfer speculation that Porter could make a £250,000 move in January 2009 to Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest or Hearts F.C. Motherwell manager Mark McGhee then went on to claim that he would not keep Porter at the club If he wished to continue his career elsewhere.

What happened to that young left winger

At Oldham, Chris Taylor (I think)? Has he shown steady improvement?

Didn't realise Mark McGhee was at Motherwell, he's still got it in for us, wouldn't sell us Kazim Richards because we wasnt good enough for the championship but sold him to sheff utd a week later

    Ah! I didn't see that

    You're clever, too.:D

I think the vast majority of suggested potential signings these past few days have shown an understanding for the problems Simon Davey will face in his hunt for new players.

Scored eight goals out of position this season and God knows how many asists for the likes of Lee Hughes. Value is around a million and he's suppose to be wanted by Wolves and Sheffield United to name two.
