Even if Lee Jay went I think that ship sailed along time ago and thank the lord it didn't dock at Oakwell. I hope Lee Jay can turn it round otherwise were fckud. Lose tomorrow and the pressure i'm afraid will be turned up a notch or 2
Meet this season's guest manger. Same old circle of failure. Appoint someone, give them under a year, decide it isn't working, sack them... play on repeat again and again until someone is given time to develop a team and a squad. Ah well.
Personally don't understand the clamour for Burton. Yes we went on a good run which started with his two games in charge and it's easy to draw a link between the two. However I personally think that the run of results was more driven by a) having a relatively easy rub of fixtures b) finally getting hold of a player who could carry the ball in o'sullivan, something we'd been badly missing and c) a bit of luck. I'm not saying he's not the right man, and he seems a genuinely likeable bloke who would at least get a bit of breathing space - certainly more than Johnson has. But I'd want a little more convincing before putting him in charge.
Really ? If it was as straightforward as that then why are there so many sackings compared to 20 years ago ? DW on his first incarnation had a very good first season in 94/95 but in 95/96 he wasn't pulling up any trees at times during the season. He wasn't under any pressure as I remember during that season. It's a lot to do with the sense of entitlement within Football now. It is very expensive IMO and therefore fans expect value for money to be shown by winning games. If not then someone has to be blamed, bit like society in general but that's a different story.
I dont think theres a clamour for Burton. I just think he's the only realistic option. If Johnson is sacked we've got a fortune to pay out. 2.5 years wages to at least 2 members of the coaching team. We cant afford to buy a manager out again. Cryne has appointed from within before with Ritchie, Davey and Flicker. I rekon Bunny is nailed on.
It's because there are very few good football managers about, many more out there not in football who could do a much better job but they I guess are put off by the turn over they see in football, so they stay in a more secure employment. Maybe I should give it a go (joking) but it' seems to be a closed shop. As a result we seem to get the run of the mill who just want a payout every year when they get sacked. It's a yearly merry-go-round of managers. Is this a little pessimistic ? I guess so but the Tykes are doing this to me. For sure LJ was always the wrong person for us tho.
Fair enough DT. I love this bit as it resonates through out all the leagues. How many times do you hear this interview from an under pressure manager ? 'I know that things aren't going well but this is a time to show strength. I want you to know that I will carry on fighting and that (insert manager's name spoken in the third person) will NEVER walk away from a challenge (insert payoff)'
Yes please. I genuinely do think a player like him in the middle of the park in place of Scowen or Pearson would make a massive amount of difference
If we sack LJ, we have to pay compensation. Then we have to pay a new manager, possibly with further compensation. Then we have to go and get O'Sullivan to fill the massive gap at the front of mid field anyway. Simples, just go and get O'Sullivan, far cheaper.
What's Stan Ternrnt doing nowadays or maybe Dave Penney??? Simon Davey anyone?? Andy Ritchie? Aaaaaarrrghhhhh!!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
