    1. New signings. M'voto looked like the centre half we've been missing for a few years last night. Could be a really popular figure. Well done Flicker for pinching him out of Donnie's pocket. Nyatanga another very good signing. Our defence will be much better this year, they might just need a little bit of time. Dale Jennings. Wow. Flashes of real quality last night. Daren't say who he reminded me of. How did we get him on a 3 year contract. I can see him being a super sub in the early games and making a massive difference to results. O'Grady (still a new signing to me!). Brilliant striker and getting better.
    2. Squad depth. 9 good defenders by my count, cover in every position, real competition and nowhere near as threadbare as we've been in recent years.
    3. System flexibility. Flicker seems to have 3 basic systems that we can play. A real plus.
    4. Team spirit. Carried over from last year the team spirit and togetherness seems tip top. As fans, lets stay with them in every game. I still can't stop thinking about Huddersfield away yet.
    5. Management and structure. Flicker, Mickey and Martin. Ben and Maurice. Enough said. We've moved a mile forward from this time last year.
    6. Youngsters. Patterson looked really good last night. Cofie. Rose. RNL. Jones and best of all Digby!

Proud to be a Barnsley fan.

good points well made. Only worry personally is that I have not felt this optimistic about a new season since Spackmans disaster. Thought it was going to be soooooooooooooo good.

Should you really be on this forum, Chorley? Optimism is severely frowned upon.

    Get him, Moanman!!!!!

Things are certainly looking good. As fans we just need to stick with them if we don't get off to a flier.

Yes I know. I thought Spackman was a good appointment at the time. He is the only man ever to drive me to call a radio phone in. I'd had a bad day at work and he was on a 'experts' show talking drivel so I called him and gave him a right earful. I felt loads better afterwards. I started by asking him about Kevin Dixon and was pleased to have him stuttering within 10 seconds.

Yes I realise optimism isn't this boards motto but I felt we needed some balance!
