Anyone know anything about equipment for crushing aluminium cans for recycling?

We produce incredibly large quantities of cans at the cricket club (after having disposed of the contents with ease). We try to take them to recycling sites but there are far too many.

We need a machine to crush them and an outlet where we can recycle them. Believe it or not BMBC are not interested.

Anyone wishing to investigate the contents of these cans in greater detail is most welcome at the club this afternoon. Rumours of a barbecue, yet to be confirmed......

Have you tried using your foot?

Any scrap yard will pay you for them.

Maybe you could pay Ian Banks to sit on them? I've heard he's out of work at the minute.

    Tried that

The main problem with that approach is that after the first few cans have been processed the crushing mechanism seems to go out of alignment.

Had a look at some of those

Not really strong enough and each can has to be processed individually. What we really need is to be able to do loads at once or have a power operated one where we just chuck the cans in a bin and watch them get mangled up.

After last night we had 3 big black bin bags full. Can't see anyone standing there and crushing all those one at a time.

    Why not get people

to crush a can after they've finished consuming the contents, wouldn't take long.

Alternatively - this is at the cricket club isn't it? Use the wicket roller (or whatever it's called) to crush them

    Thanks

That one at £749 looks good but I'm not sure we can afford that - we have tried various manually operated ones but the main problem is trying to persuade someone to do it, plus sone of the cheaper ones are rather flimsy.

Most guests are only too willing to help with the onerous task of emptying the cans, but then they appear to lose interest.

    Brilliant!

You're wasted on here. What a fantastic idea.

I will conduct preliminary trials this afternoon.

By the way we have tried your first idea - despite its apparent simplicity it just doesn't work. For some reason people just won't do it they are too busy socialising and in a way I can understand it.

    Yes v Old Sharlston

Kick off 2pm, first can opened 2.01pm

Used to play myself but then I discovered that decent eyesight and fully functional knees are important pre-requisites for playing cricket. I now confine myself to off-field activities.
