Red Arrows over Barnsley yesterday - just passing through....

Discussion in 'Bulletin Board ARCHIVE' started by Gloucester_Red, Jun 11, 2009.

  1. The Reds were just on their way home from Blackpool to Lincolnshire. They were based there on Tuesday and did two displays over the Isle of Man. They overflew the TT Races on Tuesday afternoon, over Ramsey, and did a further display that evening, this time over Douglas.
After a stroll on Blackpool prom Tuesday night, and maybe the odd candy floss, they left Blackpool Wedndesday morning at 1130 with an expected recovery time to Scampton of 1153. Therefore they will have been seen over Barnsley about 1140ish. Does that time fit in with anyone's sightings?
It's possible that someone, or some organisation, in the area requesed an overflight, maybe to celebrate a special birthday or event. They are always happy to do that if it fits in with scheduled transiting. It's literally a flypast though, not a display for obvious reasons.

PS If anyone is going to the Isle of Wight festival this weekend they are doing a full display over the site from 6pm.

    Per adua ad astra

  2. Oh, by the way, the female pilot....

....does not join the RAFAT until September this year. Quote:

Flight Lieutenant Kirsty Moore of Number XIII Squadron, RAF Marham, beat 28 other keen candidates to join the team and in turn has become the first woman to fulfil the application criteria to join the world-famous 'Diamond Nine'.

Until Flt Lt Moore, no female fast-jet pilot had reached the stage in their flying career to meet the high standards of the team which include being assessed as above average in their flying career, having a minimum of 1,500 flying hours and completing at least one front line fast-jet operational tour.

Flt Lt Moore joins Flt Lt Ben Plank of 1 (Fighter) Squadron, RAF Cottesmore, as the two new recruits to the display team which will see them begin training for their three-year tour with the team in September 2009.

    Flt Lt Moore said:
"I am delighted and honoured to have been selected for the Red Arrows team 2010, especially since the quality of the other shortlist candidates was extremely high. For now, I am focused on my current role but I am looking forward to joining the team later in the year."

So I think that we can take it that she WILL be able to park one of the Hawks when necessary
    :)

I'm thinking about going to the Waddington Airshow 4th/5th July weekend

My sis lives 2 mins away from Scampton, a little Village called Welton, and she says that she sees them a lot practicing over that area

  6. Tell your sister to make the most of it while she can!

They are moving up the road to Waddington some time in the near future. Not far away, I know

    Diamond Nine?

    That was formation puking.
If you cross your fingers at 45 degrees you can 'Diamond Nine' through them.
There's also the 'Four finger spread' the 'Prince of Wales Three' and the high tariff - 'One finger fountain'
