Red Arrows over Gloucester this lunchtime

Discussion in 'Bulletin Board ARCHIVE' started by Gloucester_Red, Jan 6, 2006.

  1. Full set of Reds with four other Hawks (from RAF Valley) right behind them. Occasion was the posting and promotion of our Commander in Chief, Air Marshal Sir Joe French who takes up his new appointment as CINC Strike Command a week today. RAF band played, Guard of Honour marched past, flypast was timed to the second as the parade gave the General Salute at exactly 1300 hrs. Parade was inspected - all young lads who've been in the Air Force only a matter of weeks. Then they marched past the dais, following the band, and Sir Joe did an "Old Mr Grace" bit, sort of half waving to the crowd and thanking us all for our support!
I love all that stuff - reminds me why I've been associated with the RAF for over 35 years!

    What a pity it's such a grotty day !!

  3. Hm, they WERE pretty low!

The cloud base was so low that the guy on the ground with the radio link to the Reds had trouble making contact. Just about got contact with them as the headlights came into view half a mile away from us!

  8. Joined in 1970 - first posting after training was Linton on Ouse!

Stayed in for 24 years before leaving for a couple of years and then returning as a civil servant. Am at Innsworth now, for as long as they allow us to stay open. Scheduled for closure 2008 but that's not absolutely certain. Email me if you want to with your background - we might have crossed at some point? I was a Pers Admin.

I wouldn't claim to know everything but let me know if I can help. There are a few others with a blue-suit connection around here as well
