Do we know if the Reds will do a guard of honour for the Wigan team on Sunday when they come out? I assume they will, as it's become kind of a tradition these days, but I've not heard anything either way regarding this as yet. Intrigued as to people's thoughts on this. My personal view is that I'd like to see them do it. I remember the Oxford United team doing one in 1997 just prior to them tonking us 5-1, before it had become commonplace, and I've always thought this was a great gesture. I think it would reflect well on us as a club to do something similar. I suspect some might not like it, given that there's something still at stake on the day, but I don't see that this would affect our mentality in any way. I doubt there's a significant impact on either side but, if anything, it would do more to confirm the 'job done' mentality to the Wigan players than to give our lads any sort of inferiority complex.
So we need tonking by 11 clear goals and Burton need to win by 10 clear goals for them not to be champions. Or the reds could be gracious and offer a guard of honour to the winners of league 1 at their home ground!
Nah, we don't owe them anything. They should give us one for gifting them 3 points at Oakwell earlier in the season.
If that happened wed look reight farts having given a guard of honour to something that never happened. We should be concentrating on our game and any plaudits for Wigan should be given after the match.
It amazes me how people like you and big lil can remember details of things like that. I'd be able to remember 'we did it to someone in the 80s'
If they were already confirmed as champions it probably would happen , but I wouldn't think there's a possibility... despite the mathematical implications.
Sunny nice day, we lost but it was league cup we went undefeated for first 13 league games losing at home to Torquay United
Personally, I think whether they are champions or not is an irrelevance. They're already promoted and will no doubt be confirmed as champions on Sunday, regardless of the final result. We weren't champions when Oxford did this for us (albeit what we'd achieved was on a much different scale to winning League One).
i think it's customary...I'd take the 5-1 win after as well! Will love seeing Chelsea have to give one to Leicester!
I'd like us to give them one. For no other reason than I think it will confirm their mentality that they have nothing to play for.
