Reds set for Woods move

BARNSLEY are the latest club to be linked with Rotherham United midfielder Martin Woods.

They are understood to be one of several clubs who have inquired about the 21-year-old left-sided midfielder who was Rotherham's Player of the Year last season.

Woods has also reportedly drawn interest from Norwich City and Scnuthorpe United after he declined the chance of a new deal at Millmoor.

He joined the Millers last summer from Sunderland but a clause in his contract allowed him to seek another club if the Milelrs were relegated.

Woods is exercising that option and would like the opportunity to parade his skills in The Championship if possible.

Meanwhile, released Millers right-back David Worrell has joined Dundee of the Scottish First Division.

Worrell had two seasons at Millmoor and was among several players who were allowed to move on by manager Mark Robins at the end of the season.

n Barnsley have signed Cheltenham Town striker Kayode Odejayi - and once again become record-breakers for the League One club.

The reported fee for the 25-year-old Nigerian of £200,000 doubles Cheltenham's transfer record which was also set by Barnsley when they signed midfielder Grant McCann for £100,000 in January.

Odejayi - cousin of ex-Sheffield United striker Adi Akinbiyi - becomes the third ex-Cheltenham player at Oakwell, winger Martin Devaney having started his career there.

His strength, pace and general awkwardness made him a handful for League One defenders this season and he played a major role in helping Cheltenham stay in League One in their first season after promotion.

He missed a handful of games and was top scorer with 15 goals and showed that he appears to have shaken off the sort of inconsistency that had dogged the early part of his Cheltenham career.

Odejayi - whose full first name is Olukayode - came to England from Nigeria when he was three. He was a youngster with Bristol City but was released by them after three years and joined Conference club Forest Green Rovers.

Cheltenham signed the 6ft 2in striker in a £10,000 deal in 2003 and, as part of that deal, Forest Green will now receive a percentage of the fee Cheltenham are receiving from Barnsley.

Cheltenham have also included a sell-on clause in the deal with Barnsley.

"Kayo has improved tremendously over the past couple of years and he deserves the chance to test his ability in The Championship," said Chelten-ham manager John Ward.

"We are disappointed to lose him but the opportunity for him was too good to refuse and it is another record fee for this football club."

really do hope so seen this lad play twice this season for rotherham he was the best player on the pitch both times and the games were against donny and forest he was class. He scored a goal against donny where he took on 2 players then cut inside and bent it into the top corner he was rotherham's only hope that day

    Woods is a class act.

as a footballer at least, maybe not as a person after that incident at Sunderland.

As a footballer, he's brilliant. Only released by Sunderland because of "that incident", and is also wanted by Norwich, Scnuthorpe and Blackpool, amongst others.

yes he is quick left footed and plays on the left aswell if him and K reid both sign and maybe wallwork i would be happy with our midfield.
