Good for him! About time the cheats were jumped on. A Notts County player was ambling off as slowly as he could to waste some time so the ref booked him, but it was his second, so he had to change it to red. Like taking a minute or two to celebrate a goal and get back to the half way line this is one of the most blatant forms of time wasting, and every team does it. Time it was stopped. PS massive crowd for a local-ish derby - 5,547 Here is the story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29486461
Thats terrible support I thought it was bad against us 9005 and over 2500 were us but leeds were playing at home last night. And good on the ref about time
A much simpler solution to stop all this time wasting is to copy what they do in rugby so stop the clock when there is a break in play So when an interruption occurs such as an injury , substitution or goal the clock is stopped until everyone is ready to restart Clearly you cant do it that for every throw in or goal kick but the ref could stop the clock if he wants to book a player for timewasting for a goal kick for example
Anyone notice that Notts County had 0 shots on target.. so it's not just us that have struggled away at Donny but I assume that it is still all Danny's fault.
According to Donny fans County were there to timewaste from the first minute. Not quite as bad as us but still, they got a point and we didn't.
NFL style clock rules would be good if people didn't mind being around until going upto six after an afternoon match
I can't comment on League because I have never seen it, but Union has most things right. A player gets a minor injury and is treated on the pitch while play goes on - nothing wrong with that. Referees talk to the players in an authoritative way and they mostly take heed of what he says. Discipline in football is a joke in comparison. Time keeping is spot on - the clock stops when the ref says it should. Everybody knows where they are and there is NO time wasting. As soon as 80 minutes is reached the next break in play signals the end of the game. Could be someone kicking it out, committing a foul or scoring a try. If football adopted all of the above it would be a better product spectator-wise. The cheating we see on every football pitch every day of the week disappears immediately. If the match finishes at 5 o'clock instead of five to so what?
You say good for him but don't forget it was accidental. The ref didn't realise he'd already booked him so was only intending to give out a meaningless yellow. I wonder if he would have booked him if he knew it was his second
For sub's it should be hockey style. No stoppage, just players entering and exitingnunder the eye of the fourth official. For goals I'd let the conceding team kick off when ready. If the scoring team is down the other end playing with each others cocks still then tough
In Ice Hockey the clock stops & starts on the refs whistle and there is a separate time keeper so the ref doesn't have to worry about it. Also, only certain players can talk to the ref so they aren't hounded by the team at every decision.
Accidental or not I still applaud the action. Be nice if it made a few others think about their actions when trudging off. The ref might even have hurried him up but he ignored it. I'm all for a few more red cards for time wasting
Err...RUGBY has it right, mate. Same applies in League. And it doesn't add hours to the game. Although that's probably because Rugby refs apply the system sensibly. Not sure the same would apply to footy refs!
Just seen the incident and to me he didn't seem to be dawdling that badly. I've seen players go off far more slowly than that.
Thing the average 'in play' time for a football game is around 26 mins per half rest of the time the balls out of play. Make both halfs 30 mins each way but everytime the ball goes out or a players injured the clock stops. Only way the games going to be affected is momentum player goes down injured were paying to see him get attention. This way your guaranteed 60 mins of football.
