Sounds like he lost the plot towards the end, in the same way that he did in his last Barnsley game at home to Fleetwood last season.
I thought he was very poor got several key decisions wrong all in favour of Charlton. Failed to book their #4 who got away with a lot of fouls and his handling of the time wasting 2nd half was non existent. Also as you say totally lost the plot 2 blatant pens not awarded in our favour at least one of which should have also had a red card(on McAtee 2nd half). The one on Cole was other end to harder to judge. They scored their free kick from a “foul” that was soft in the extreme. Aka a dive Not the ref but lineman but suggestion of offside for their 2nd and onside for Jalo’s disallowed goal but need to see the replays couldn’t tell from behind the goal Giving him a 1 for correctly awarding us on penalty for a fairly blatant hand ball
Shocking referee, weren't a foul for the free kick that May scored. Missed a stonewaller penalty on Cole.
I was going to give him 1 for just turning up but then upgraded it to 2 for giving us a penalty that most would have ignored, just like he ignored the other penalty shouts for us that he turned down. The usual plot losing scenario at the end as tempers got a bit frayed. Overall yet another very poor performance from a referee. This cannot go on. SURELY those running the game have a say in these appointments or is it simply a case of there aren't enough people coming forward to do the job so incompetence has to be tolerated (by them, not us)?
He has previous.... https://www.thefa.com/news/2022/may/05/fa-charges---april-2022-050522 INCIDENTS OF MISCONDUCT IN RELATION TO SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS Ben Speedie, Match Official, National Group of Referees Breaches of FA Rule E3 - Misconduct for two breaches of FA Rule E3 in respect of social media posts present on the Participant’s Facebook Account. Collective score for the ref and lino. Key decisions wrong. Stonewall penalty, onside goal that was ruled off, offside goal that was ruled on. He doesn't get marks from me, for awarding a penalty that was a clear penalty.
Him and the miserable príck of a linesman that disallowed Jalo's first league goal (no idea if it was off tbh) get a generous 1, 0.5 for turning up and 0.5 for awarding us a penalty. Generally though he was crap. Thought he got their penalty correct, but gave them free kick after free kick for flinging themselves over, denied us a second penalty for what looked like a foul on McAtee (though he could've been stronger) and allowed their second goal to stand despite May being stood offside when the ball was played to him. Happy enough to deny an 18 year old his first league goal though.
2. Not completely incompetent but got quite a few decisions wrong and lost control toward the end. Hopefully we don't see him again this season.
