does a referee have any powers to stop an injured player from continuing? Say for example a player breaks his leg but refuses to stop playing, can a referee order him off the field of play for the rest of the game for his own good?

Also if a player keeps going down with the same injury can he again order him off the pitch for good? For example if he pulls his hamstring or does whatever butterfield did and he goes down, gets treatment and tries to carry on but a few minutes later he's down again, has treatment and gets back up, a few minutes later hes down for the third time, can the ref say enoughs enough and make him leave the pitch?

dont think so although on your second scenario, he is able to book the guy for time wasting so 2 bookables and hes off.

The ref didn't stop Heinz Muller playing on when clearly struggling.
