Relegation cut off: 52 points

prompted by the back page of the Chronicle, I've succumbed to temptation and done a quick calc on remaining games by team and Im convinced 52 points will be the cut off. With Forest playing Southampton in the last game of the season, I suspect the winner of that will stay up, loser going down, with Charlton.

Leaves one place, realistically between us, Plymouth, Norwich and Blackpool cos I think Watford and Derby have games and points in hand. Plymouth have Coventry, Doncaster and us to play at home - very winnable. Norwich have Sheff Wed and Watford at home, and Charlton away last game of the season - again, very winnable. Blackpool have Plymouth and Forest at home and Charlton away, and are already on 47.

Basically, we need 8 points and a decent goal difference. 5 of our remaining 8 games being away from home puts a huge amount of significance on our 3 home games. Anything other than a win against Forest and I think we are looking very, very dodgy.

Forest is the key game. if we get a result againt them then i think the pressure can be lifted a bit. I still feel we will see 4 points on the road before the seasons end.

If we lose against Forest

we are properly in the ****. Other than Coventry, everyone of our games is against a team with something to play for. Several of the sides down there still have to play Charlton, who most likely will have thrown in the towel after next weeked.

My workings out

had both teams on 49 thus another win puts them on 52 and leaves the loser on 49.

to be honest, I think the point against Derby could be the spur that the team needs to say look we can do this to 'big teams' with decent players.

48 will be enough.

The teams below us will struggle in remaining games and not pick many points up. We need two wins and our goal difference is better at the moment than 75% of teams below us.

The Pikeys to be pulled back into it l reckon, Stock (scored most of their goals and best player) and Coppinger missing for the remainder, lost 3 on the trot and they had already had an experience of losing 9 on the trot, could happen again. Norwich, Charlton & Forest down, Saints hanging on by the skin of their teeth, Norwich above them then us, Pikeys and Plymouth with roughly the same points.
