Citing the project at Inverness and his love of the area etc? Gone well for him since... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32543980
I look forward to see him fail. Utter clown of a man who's teams are full of cloggers. Totally anti football in his outlook.
To be fair, I'm glad he turned us down. nothing against him, but he's not the type of manager for BFC
You can never judge a manager on one good season as it's generally the case that they've just dropped lucky with a group of players and the team in question punches above its weight for a bit.
He's a dreadful manager. It didn't matter whether he was Mourinho or Spackman, though: being turned down by him in public made us look really, really tinpot.
I always liked Terry Butcher. Gave everything to the cause for England when watching them really meant something. My estimations went up after the way he conducted himself when offered the Barnsley job. He took the time to speak to us, agonised over the situation but decided to turn us down. He was then generous enough to give an interview to Radio Sheffield where he spoke highly of the club. We're a bigger club than Inverness, we would have given him a bigger budget and a much higher wage. He turned us down because he believed the job was unfinished in Scotland. We might have a dodged a bullet, he may now regret the decision, he may not be all that good a manager anyway, but he seems like a really sound bloke.
He's just told BBC Sport that Newport have the potential to be a Premier League club. I won't pretend I didn't love him as a player, especially when I saw him play for England as a kid, and I've no idea whether he's a good bloke or bad manager. But to be managing Inverness and turn down Barnsley's largest ever managerial wage, and then within a couple of years and sackings pitch up at Newport proclaiming them potential Premier League material, I'd suggest things haven't gone so well for him the last couple of years.
he didn't need to do that as we have done it ourselves for god knows how many years recently sad but true
