Just a serious note for one second. I don't know about you guys but this day always gives me goose bumps. Some seroius **** went on during those 2 world wars plus many other conflicts. I am 34 years old and many men my age went to war and never returned, just so we can live our lives and have the freedom of speech we excercise on this BBS, amongst other things. Just makes you think. (england)

  3. How it is done on an RAF Station.....

Just in case anyone is interested. I have just been outside to the flag pole where a good number of uniformed and civilian personnel were gathered for the five minute ceremony. The Orderly Sergeant took up position with the two flag ropes in her hand, ready to lower the Ensign to half mast. The Orderly Officer stands facing her, at attention, with the Station Commander a few paces behind. At the appointed time a lone bugler struck up the Last Post and that was the signal to lower the flag and for all commissioned officers to salute. Two minutes silence were observed with all the officers keeping their salute until the end. The bugler signalled the end of the silence and we all drifted away, back to work, to get on with our lives. We're the lucky ones....
