Im Baffled by our media in this one. Surely if ever there was a story that needed front page coverage and incessant reminders to the public of what is going on this is it. Almost more important than Brexit covarage but its hardly had a mention
Isn't RIPA one of Teresa May's babies from when her last job. There is more chance of Brexit being dropped than this one.
They know who the terrorists are... All that shizzle is already monitored. This is blatent snooping of what your doing...
Its nothing to do with that - in any case if you really are a terrorist or criminal with any knowledge of how the internet works you can get round it easily enough. To take just one example Do you really want your entire internet history over the last year, what social media apps you use and who you connect with to be available to a large group of bodies to peruse such as the Police, department of Work and Pensions, Food Standards Agency etc without any need to get a warrant or show suspicion of criminal intent Such databases are bound to be hacked and leaked - so many people will have access its impossible to hope its not going to happen quickly that opens the possibility of blackmail or indescriminite use of your personal data for targets marketing, harrasment etc. And thats before you start on requirements for manaufacturers to provide means for government to be able to access your PC Phone etc - any backdoor like that is bound to be exploited by criminals regardless of whether you think you have nothing to hide.
As someone who works in the industry, RIPA is something that always feels like at some point the people pushing it should realise its actually a crap idea *but* our esteemed PM is behind it, so it will get implemented and sod the consequences. I just hope that she is one of the first to be hacked through a back door. If the manufacturers are required to put in a back door, then you might as well never go internet shopping again unless you really want to give your hard earned to fund whichever criminal gang has hacked your device this week.
This is just one area where we suffer without a credible opposition. Today the Guardian reports a 16 point lead for the Tories in their latest opinion poll. Corbyn will never be elected by the wider electorate. The tragedy is that in places like this that could lead the door wide open for UKIP.
Ridiculously Corbyn and Labour abstained on the vote. Why? I have no idea. Its been passed, and funnily enough has to go though the European Court of Justice. Well. That's nice.
