My old Toshiba won't turn on, and I'm sure it's due to a lack of power from the AC adapter, so I need a replacement. Anyone know a decent site that has a good range/knowledge?

I'm a bit worried I might buy the wrong one and not be able to get refunded on it

    Ta

    Maplin do a universal one

You could try there - otherwise if you know the model you want to replace dabs or misco are good reliable online sites that will refund if you order the wrong one without problems

    Ta, I'll look into those.

I do know the model replaacement number, but problem is, I've found the model number but it says it's compatable with a whole range of Toshiba's but mine wasn't mentioned, then I found my laptop, but had a different replacement number. Pretty confusing.

But cheers, I'll try those sites

I got a replacement charger from www.laptop-chargers.co.uk a while ago. Don't think it was cheap but they have a big range and it arrived quickly!

don't buy a universal one, they don't last 5 minutes. Amazon sell cheap proper ones, and laptop shop.co.uk

    On the subject

Would a UK power lead, that then plugs into the laptop adapter, work ok with a US laptop?

    Probably

Just check that the input voltage range is up to 230 V and not just 110V

Most laptops chargers are dual voltgage but I can imagine the Americans forgetting the rest of the world exists and producing ones that only work on 110V

I checked the range on the charger

and it does go up to 230v

You are assuming that American ones aren't all manufactured in the far east like ours!
