Following my tirade that I sent to them on Wednesday night I have had the following reply from Radio Sheffield. Clearly it looks like a stock and unsatisfactory reply in my eyes. Thank you for your e-mail. BBC Radio Sheffield would have loved to have covered this game with full match commentary and other games throughout the season. We made the club a fair and reasonable offer based on the number of games we anticipated we would broadcast and the promotion package that went with it. Sadly the Club wanted to increase the fee paid in 2006-7by 150% which was completely unrealistic. Our station operates on a fixed budget and our offer was the best we could make based on the savings we have had to make and the value for money we have had to deliver to our audiences. As a result of this Barnsley Football Club has withdrawn all co-operation with BBC Radio Sheffield and is giving no access to its coaching staff or players. It should be noted that all other media outlets including Hallam FM, Real Radio, DearneFM, Sheffield Star, Barnsley Chronicle, Yorkshire Post and more do not have any agreement in place. They do not make any payments to the Club and they are given full access. Despite us having a dedicated Football programme 6 days a week, the Club has decided not to use us as an outlet to get news and information to their fans. I hope that clarifies the situation Gary Keown Editor
I don't think that's a stock reply. It probably is, in terms of the issue you are dealing with here, ie the impasse between Barnsley FC and BBC Radio Sheffield. I suspect that they will have sent the same reply to any one else who queried what happened and why they are not broadcasting our games It's difficult to know who to believe when it all comes down to it, although I suspect SM will have much to say on the matter.
Oh dear, Teacher Tina typing too quickly! Oh well, it's my last day of freedom today before I start back at the sweat shop on Monday. At 10am today , all the school books will be out and the whole day spent preparing for next week. I went into my new school on Weds this week and my classroom looked like a bomb site. A brand new school and all the windows have leaked and the plaster has peeled off the walls. To make matters worse, they had dismantled every single bloody lead in my computer set up to move the thing. What a waste of time. These new schools are 'thrown up' believe you me. There was scaffolding all over the place and there was no way I could get the room ready for my new children. They have assured me it will be ok for Monday. I hope so.
Do you teach Primary or Secondary (if the later which subject) The reason I'm asking is my Son is entering his third year English degree and he wants to teach. (Pm me if you don't want this public)</p>
Total Crap Both parties are STILL using the terms "Commentary" and "Access" interchangeably. A 150% increase in what "fee"? It's complete and utter crap. The commentary fee is fixed between the BBC and the football authorities. I have no idea what this "access" fee is (or how much it is worth), but you can bet Radio Sheffied ARE paying it to the other local clubs. More fool them if other "media outlets" are not paying a fee for this.... Neither party can be believed until they come clean about exactly what was discussed. Since this a financial discussion, there is little hope of that ever happening.
Keep your powder dry I'd be having a Press Conference every day if it were me, with a sign on the door that states "no access to cheapskates, charlatans, Blunts or Fowls".
"Our station operates on a fixed budget " Doesn't everyone? Isn't that the idea of a budget? Eastandertastic.
They could not cover the game with full commentry as they have no agreement with BFC. I thought we had reached this conclusion the other night. To solely blame the BBC is foolish IMHO
