Four goals in 16 second half minutes saw Vale Reserves come from behind to beat Barnsley 5-2 at Vale Park this afternoon as the Vale turned out a young side for their final Pontins League fixture of the season..

Port Vale: Lloyd Ransome, Mark McGregor, Charlie O'Loughlin, Luke Prosser, Alex Jeannin, Simon Richman, Mark Soboljew, Christian Smith, Joe Cardle, James Lawrie, Amari Morgan-Smith. Subs: Danny Glover, Chris Martin, Ross Davidson, Luke Chapman, Paul Dixon

Barnsley: Kyle Letherten, Danny Smith, Greg McGrory, Luke Waterfall, Ryan Jennings, Stefan Holt, Jacob White, Jacob Butterfield, Daniel Frost, Kyle Wyatt, Luke Fedorenko. Subs: Mark Devonshire, Liam Ormsby

James Lawrie went close after 8 minutes when he forced a save from Barnsley 'keeper Kyle Letherten, and a minute later Vale had the ball in the net.

Joew Cardle slipped the ball to his left to Alex Jeannin, who whipped the ball into the box and Charlie O'Loughlin netted from close range, but the 'goal' was ruled out for offside.

It was the visitors who took the lead on 13 minutes, when Frost's looping left wing cross was inadvertently turned into his own net by Jeannin.

Simon Richman wasn't far off levelling matters after latching on to a short ball through from Cardle, but his angled drive was blocked by Letherten, before a red-shirted defender kicked the ball out for a corner kick.

Vale had an opportunity to equalise when Lawrie was brought down on the edge of the box by Danny Smith. Jeannin took the free-kick, beating the 'keeper, but the ball struck the angle of the crossbar and post.

Vale didn't have too long to wait, however. Lawrie slipped the ball into the path of Morgan-Smith, who advanced on goal before firing past Letheren from 15 yards.

Any hopes the visitors had of getting their noses in front again were finished off in 16 second half minutes as the Vale went goal-crazy.

Christian Smith put his side ahead on 49 minutes when he rose to head home Jeannin's free kick from out on the left, and he almost repeated it when he headed a cross from Jeannin just inches wide of the target.

Vale made a substitution on 55 minutes when Danny Glover came on for Morgan-Smith, and the young striker had an immediate effect on the game.

He beat the offside trap to race through the Barnsley defence, then sent in a low cross for Mark Soboljew to fire home with his left foot.

On 59 minutes, Glover was on the score sheet himself when Jeannin sent a left wing corner close to goal and Glover headed home from underneath the crossbar.

The visitors had an opportunity to pull one back a minute later when Vale 'keeper, Lloyd Ransome mis-kicked and the ball went straight to the feet of White, but Ransome managed to block the shot.

Vale then made it 5-1. Cardle cut inside from the left to unleash a stinging drive, which the 'keeper couldn't hold on to, and Soboljew darted in to head home his second of the afternoon.

Barnsley pulled a goal back in the 90th minute when Smith was brought down in the box by Jeannin. The defender was dismissed as he was the last man, and White slotted home the spot kick.
