Noticed a lot of them around today. Are they a new thing or have I had my eyes shut? Noticed they seem to be different from Doyles
Massive gang of them in blue/purple bibs back of Ponty when I rolled up. Overheard them discussing something about Martin Nettleton
Seen a few complaints about them ... I know someone asking for further evidence before he contacts club about their behaviour
We've always had a response team who wear blue and they work for Doyles. Can't guarantee that yesterday they did but in general they do
These had different names on their coats - wasn't Doyles. There was far more of them yesterday - very noticeable especially on Ponty concourse
Boxer turned businessman dies Barnsley Chronicle. 4 Feb 2022. By Luke Watson BUSINESSMAN: Shaun founded Doyle Security in the 1980s. A BUSINESSMAN whose previous career in boxing saw him join the elite group of Barnsley fighters who have challenged for a British title has died. Shaun Doyle was known as the ‘Blonde Bombshell’ over his 27 bouts in the ring in the 1960s and founded Doyle Security in 1985 – and in the years between, he ran a local pub. He died aged 77 in the early hours of Wednesday after a long-term illness. Shaun famously challenged Johnny Cooke for the British welterweight title in May 1967, but lost out by a halfpoint in Liverpool. He was described as putting up a ‘tremendous fight’ and never got the second chance his efforts deserved, but had an impact on the sport in Barnsley that endured after his relatively short time in the ring – given his role in bringing televised events to the town as a promoter. Following his career, Shaun worked as a publican running the Plough Inn on Doncaster Road. He then founded the security firm, now well-established in the town. Shaun’s son, Grant, 48 – now the company’s director – said: “A lot of people don’t realise but my dad retired in 1996 and has been enjoying his life since then. “He kept himself to himself, and his family. “I have two children and being with them was his be-all-and-end-all. “He was a fabulous father and a friend to all. It’s been unbelievable looking through the people he’s known – we don’t know how many will be at the funeral – and it’s touching how many people have appreciated his company. “He’s been particularly ill since Christmas and while we’re upset, it’s come as a blessing to know he’s at peace.”
He lived close to us, down Jermyn Croft, just off Dodworth High Street. I saw him quite a few times at Holy Rood Church.
