I don't eat out in Barnsley often, so could do with any nice pub / restaurant recommendations within 10 miles of town - it's for a 60th wedding anniversary. So needs to be traditional British food with good vegetarian menu. Any recommendations welcomed.
Seconded. Plenty of vegetarian options. Not to be confused with Wagon and Horses at Langsett which is also very nice - both pub meals though.
I'd book the 3 Acres at Shelley. Guaranteed good night. Food and drinks spot on. https://www.3acres.com/contact/
The Sovereign is lovely. I've been a few times recently and I haven't been disappointed. I think it's in Shepley which is about ten miles from Barnsley.
Glad you have suggested this. Been looking for a nice place i can go and eat and also can get there in one of my choppers. Sorted
We use the Sovereign at Shepley as well. Thoroughly recommend. Red Kite at Junction 39 of the M1 at Crigglestone is in the same chain.
As is the Foxglove just a bit further down the main A629 as you head into Kirkburton. All three of those pubs are part of the Vintage Inns chain. I'd say the food at The Sovereign is ok if not spectacular, all three of those pubs have rebranded over recent years while trying to create a more gourmet style dining experience and the menu pricing certainly reflects that. IMO it's still just a standard pub/restaurant, a lot of the food is not freshly prepared (as they would have you believe) and some options are overpriced for what you get. PS I usually enjoy a few spring/summer time drinks in the sovereign beer garden! However, you have to be mindful of incidents/near misses as that crossroads is a notorious accident blackspot. I'm suprised Kirklees Council haven't completed additional alterations or put lights up.
https://catchseafood.co.uk/catch-seafood-holmfirth/ One of only a handful of restaurants the Huddersfield Examiner gave the full five stars to last year when it reviewed it. I prefer Kingfishers in Wakefield mind for fish meals.
McDonalds guaranteed to taste same every time! Even got a few in your range Asda, Stairfoot, Cortonwood, Tankersley and Morrison’s
It's around 12 miles from Barnsley, but it's worth visiting the Woodman Inn at Thunderbridge on the outskirts of Huddersfield. It's very good. https://www.woodman-inn.com/
I've always enjoyed it at The British Oak. Nice pub with good grub. https://www.thebritishoakwakefield.co.uk/index
Agree with this. Bar 315 at Lepton is superb too. Again, pricey, but worth it. Especially for a special occasion. http://www.315barandrestaurant.co.uk
I agree JT. Has to be a special occasion for us to go there, but well worth it when we do. You are guaranteed a good night re- food is excellent and they keep a good pint.
