Oldham striker Chris Hall has retired from football at the age of 20.
Hall announced his decision after he was last week fined a maximum two weeks' wages after failing to report for treatment on his broken leg and his whereabouts were still unknown up until a meeting with Latics chief executive Alan Hardy on Monday.
He confirmed he has quit the game "for personal reasons" with the club now in the process of terminating his contract while retaining compensation rights should Hall change his mind in the future.
He broke his leg during training in March and had not reported to physio Lee Nobles for treatment since early May.
Following his departure, Oldham are left without any contracted strikers with Chris Porter, Matt Wolfenden, Deane Smalley and Lewis Alessandra all considering new deals.
The Latics are however, hoping to sign former West Brom forward Lee Hughes.
Hughes has not played since being sentenced to six years in prison in August 2004 for causing death by dangerous driving.

If he does turn up in the big brother house i hope he gets plastered and ends up with kieron richardsons god-awful cousin. itll serve him right for giving up the beautiful game so young.
its his choice if he wants to quit. We have all left jobs before, and while im sure there are thousands who would love to have had the chance he had, its still his to throw away
true it is his choice an we shouldn't judge him for it but just for the record ive never quit ive only ever been fired but i swear they were just cigarettes (blaze) (blaze) (blaze) (blaze)
He Shouldn't......... believe he's as special as he is. Best hope he's got for a career now is modelling. However team morale will be much better now he's gone.
